Well stated, Wanda! That really is the difference between those who succeed on low-carb and those who fail. It's not the diet that fails them, but rather their tenacity to make it work for them over their entire life!

You're gonna LOVE my podcast on Thursday as I explain why low-carb is BETTER than the low-fat/low-calorie diets groups like the NIH have been wanting people to follow. It's an eye-opening, so come back and check it out!

I think the sad truth in all of this is that alot of people know that low carb works but when they get into a restaurant or are partying on the weekend, it's easier to make the harder choices then explain why they are being a pain in the butt asking all of the questions.

I think when I failed a couple years ago, that was my problem. I would do good at home but when going out. I would just let it go............it just wasn't a LIFESTYLE.
If it isn't one then it goes away much quicker then if you make the low carb decision instead of the "I will low carb later" one.

let's face it, if you aren't prepared to face the world with your lifestyle, nobody is going to help you out.JMO!!!!

I thank God that I discovered low carbing! It is the one thing plus exercise that is finally taking my weight off. After years of dieting-you name it, I have probably tried it-I have found what works for me. I educate myself about the low carb lifestyle and keep up to date by viewing your site,Jimmy.Various forums provide new recipes to try plus allow me to question other low carbers if I need to. I will answer anyone who is interested in how I am losing. I still have a way to go to reach my goal, but I know low carbing will get me there! Thanks for more infoJimmy!

I have had a surgical approach to lose over 160lbs myself. But there are "safer" weight loss surgeries out there. I had a lapband placed, not stomach stapling - no complications of staples busting, malnutrition. It just isn't that way with a lapband. The WORST complication would mean my band would have to come out and my stomach would go back to normal. I certainly hope that never happens as my band has saved my life and I LOVE not being hungry anymore.

There are real issues like saiety defects that all the low-carbing or low-fat dieting will never fix. Sadly.

I do a low-carb diet WITH my band. It seems to work for me. You see I have to watch my calories AND my carbs. I'm one of those so super sensitive people to carbs - the ones Dr. Atkins speaks of (being Insulin resistance - I have PCOS) that I had to eat less than 5 carbs a day to lose weight and even that I BARELY lost on it. It was a nightmare, frankly. It was just too low. I basically was eating meat and butter because with that low of carbs I didn't have much play.

Now I can eat a moderate amount of calories and a moderate/lower amount of carbs and still lose weight.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your site and am completely onboard with low-carbing (my husband is diabetic and my 14 year old is also IR with PCOS). I hope to prevent a lapband for her by teaching her about carbs and she is TOTALLY onboard with it. She is an advocate at her high school for a lower carb and a TRUE healthier diet. Of course when she brings South Beach Wraps to school - kids who are sitting next to her eating french fries (because you know they sell those as a VEGETABLE) and a cookie for lunch say things like "Ewwwwww what's that you're eating". Oh well!!

She has lost 25lbs since October doing a low-carb diet and my husband has lost 15 (he didn't need to lose as much).

Thank again for your terrific website, just wanted you to know there are SAFER weight loss surgeries available for those who are having a tough time with any diet modification.

The federal employees at the NIH apparently do not give a care about the obesity epidemic or the health of the nation. The reason for this must be a "catch 22" situation with the government (such as the Feds doing nothing about immigration for fear of losing Hispanic votes - even though illegal aliens are stressing our resources to the limit). The Feds are obviously unwilling to be truthful and honest about the obesity (health) epidemic because they do not want to risk their "cozy" relationship with the huge producers of crap (such as sugar and empty carbohydrates) that line our grocery store shelves and hence their pockets with money. We surely know about the well paid lobbyists in congress who give favors and payoffs to the politicians which causes them to lean this way or that way. It does'nt take a rocket scientist to figure out what ordinary citizens are up against - BIG MONEY! How much tax would the Feds lose if General Mills suddenly had to stop producing junk? How about the grocery stores and their revenue? The distributors, transportation, etc,? Thats just one producer! The cold, hard fact is we have to be responsible for our own well being - because the gov't. and/or big business is not going to do it for us. One last "example" for those who are as brainwashed in our society as the extremist Islamics are in theirs: I give you one word - KATRINA! Did our wonderful, caring gov't. really come through then or did it actually leave its citizens to fend for themselves? WAKE UP AMERICA because only the strong survive. We need to DO WHAT EACH OF US KNOWS IS RIGHT, GET in shape, LOSE the weight, STOP buying crap and poisoning ourselves, REFUSE to be a victim of greedy big business and an uncaring, selfish bureaucracy. STOP being weak and dying and START being strong and living as we all should be. Only then can we be in a position to elect a governing body thats worth a s---! If this applies and makes any sense to you I'm grateful. If not, just throw it over your shoulder and good luck to you - you're going to need it... In any case, I wish us all strength, wellness and health - or at least WISDOM if all else fails. Gods speed and blessing...
