Greetings low-carbers! Welcome to the 47th episode of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!” We wouldn’t be here without you, so THANKS for joining us again for another exciting excursion into low-carb living!!
We’re so glad you are all here to support us, and we hope you know that our host Jimmy (and the rest of our staff) are here to help support YOU any way that we can. In fact that is the very theme of today’s episode–SUPPORT. More specifically, support and accountability while you are losing weight.
In Episode 47, Jimmy discusses the importance of having someone “on your team” to support you through your weight loss, whether it’s a spouse (like Jimmy’s wonderful wife, Christine), an online buddy at your favorite weight loss forum, or even your buddy at the gym.
In fact, the more support you have the merrier! It really can make all the difference in the world between your eventual weight loss success and failure. Listen in today to hear Jimmy’s thoughts on this subject!

TRANSCRIPT of EPISODE 47:
Hey there are welcome to Episode 47 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore.” I’m glad you could join me today as I share with you about a very important topic as it relates to bringing about permanent weight loss in your life. You won’t want to miss today’s show. Stay tuned.
If you entered the big blogiversary giveaway contest I was conducting at my LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com blog, then you might want to go see if you won a prize! The winners will be announced sometime today on April 30th at LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com. Even if you didn’t win any of the posted prize packages, I do have a special prize coming in the mail to you sometime this week if you entered. THANK YOU for your entries as I celebrated two years of low-carb blogging throughout the month of April.
People ask me all the time how I lost over 180 pounds on the low-carb lifestyle. The diet itself is important and so is exercise, drinking water, taking vitamins, and other such stuff, but there’s something every effective weight loss plan absolutely cannot live without. Regardless of how you choose to lose weight, you really need a system of support.
When you are embarking on any kind of weight loss journey, you must have at least one person who will stand with you throughout this experience. This person will give you the motivation to keep on keeping on especially when you are struggling and will also chastise you in a loving manner of course when it looks like you are falling off the wagon.
For me, that’s exactly the role my wife Christine played in my weight loss and I bragged on her quite a bit in my book “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb: My Journey From Flabby Fat To Sensationally Skinny In One Year.” You can pick up your copy of my book at Amazon.com or even download the e-book for less than $10 at Booklocker.com. I share honestly and openly about my struggles, successes, and support in that book, so I know you won’t be disappointed. Let me know what you think about it if you have read it or will be reading it soon. I’m beginning work on a second book as we speak! WOO HOO!
If you are trying to do the low-carb lifestyle alone, then you are only setting yourself up for failure. I am firmly convinced that you need to surround yourself with an accountability partner who will hold you to your obligation to shed the pounds during the weight loss phase and then many other accountability partners after the weight has come off to help you keep it off. In fact, I have told at least 100 people to get on me if they see me starting to slip back into bad eating habits or putting on a few pounds. There’s no way on God’s green Earth I will ever get back up over 400 pounds again! Or 300 or even 250 pounds. Nope, it’s not gonna happen because I’ve got people who won’t let me get there. And that’s a beautiful thing!
Now, let me get back to Christine for just a moment. The woman I love so dearly has been there for me throughout the good and the bad time. She married me in 1995 when I weighed 350 pounds and she was only 95 pounds soaking wet. She watched me lose 170 pounds on a low-fat diet in 1999 only to gain it all back and then some prior to 2004. Then she watched me start yet ANOTHER diet in 2004 when my weight had soared up over 400 pounds. And yet she stood by me anyway. That kind of commitment to my personal well-being just cannot be put into words. She has been my anchor despite going through some very difficult physical circumstances with the risk of losing her eyesight, chronic back pain, and other such health ailments. Not a day goes by that she doesn’t tell me how proud she is of who I am. Her encouragement is like gold to my low-carb lifestyle and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Let me encourage you to do something today. Not tomorrow, not next week, but RIGHT NOW while you are thinking about it. If you are trying to lose or maintain your weight, then be sure to tell the people who are standing with you through this experience how much you appreciate their support and investment into your life. Too often we forget to just say “thank you” and “I love you” because we assume those around us already know it. While that may be true, it sure is nice to let them know it verbally from your lips every once in a while. It’ll make you and them feel more appreciated and it gives them motivation to keep on lifting you up to reach your weight loss goals and then stay there. That’s what Christine has done in my life and I hope and pray that you find your “Christine” to be with you as you are livin’ la vida low-carb.
Another reason finding support and accountability from your friends and loved ones is so important is so you can resist temptation. If you are fortunate enough to have people around you to be your cheerleader in this weight loss adventure, then count yourself blessed. There are a lot of people who feel all alone when they start something like this. But thanks to the wonderful World Wide Web, finding support is just a click of the mouse away. There are so many forums, blogs, and other such support web sites available on the Internet today that there is no excuse why you should start livin’ la vida low-carb without some system of support in place. You can find a list of low-carb links to many of these amazing resources by visiting my “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Links” blog at LowCarbLinks.blogspot.com.
It’s interesting how people tend to be more open and honest on the Internet than they would be to those who they see everyday. Boy do they ever share with you EVERYTHING! You oughta read some of the e-mails that come my way. Boy howdy! We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto! But that’s okay because I’m all about helping people find the plan that works for them and sticking with that plan for the rest of their long, happy, and healthy lives. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
That’s it for Episode 47 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore.” Come back again on Thursday as we continue this discussion of accountability by looking at the benefits of having a wide open weight loss for all the world to see. Is it better to tell people you are trying to lose weight to keep you honest or should you keep your big mouth shut? We’ll talk about it next time. So, until then, keep on livin’ la vida low-carb!
