I don't consider BMI an adequate way to describe obesity or being overweight.

I do not believe overweight and obesity should be used together. Over half of Navy Seals are overweight. Overweight people live longer than normal weight people. We are straining at a knat and swallowing a camel. BMIs over 30 are the problem. We shouldnt fall into the group think of using the words overweight and obese interchangeably.

I agree wholeheartedly that overweight and obese people should NOT be discriminated against. But that lack of incivility must also be reciprocated by people who are in that position to actually do something about their weight and health so they can become productive members of society. That's not too much to ask as long as people are given a plan that works for them. For many, that's livin' la vida low-carb which is why I have invested my life into this podcast and my blog. THANKS for your comments!

I suppose to a point I must disagree with you. I do not condone discrimination of any sort. And obese, overweight, chunky, people are most definitely discriminated against. So in this point I support fat acceptance.
But to hide your head in the sand about the dangers of being obese is just plain old stupid. You may be able to carry and extra 20, 30, 40, or even 50+ lbs and there not be any health drawbacks----for awhile--but the older you get the worse they get.
As for Ms Barto's comment about eating disorders----the fastest growing eating disorder in our nation today is not anorexia or bulemia. Binge eating comprises more diagnosed cases of eating disorder than anorexia and bulemia combined. Guess what binge eating leads to ---obesity. WOW what a shocker.

GOOD FOR YOU, Linda! You are like millions of other people (including myself!) who previously told the world to go mind their own business about my weight. But when 410 pounds was staring me right in the face, I knew this issue was not going to go away all by itself no matter how much people accepted it.

CONGRATULATIONS on making livin' la vida low-carb your permanent and healthy lifestyle change. I know you feel better and healthier than you ever have before.

Now the only question is whether those tens of millions of other overweight and obese people will come to the same realizatio you and I have.

TAKE CARE, Linda, and THANKS for listening!

" Fat acceptance" is just another excuse for people to remain fat. I was in denial about my weight for a long time. My excuse was that if people couldn't accept me as I was, screw them. It wasn't until someone asked when I was"due" that I woke up! It takes courage to change . It is still a day to day struggle; I have lost quite a few pounds but still have a way to go until my goal weght. But I have chosen to do it for me, for my health.
