Having a glass of wine is a cultural rite of passage for so many people. But part of the problem for people paying attention to their health is the tendency for overindulging and getting more alcohol and carbohydrates than they ever intended. This is a concern a Napa Valley winemaker named Todd White from DryFarmWines.com quickly recognized and set out to correct by creating a product with just the right amount of alcohol with zero sugar in it to enjoy wine without all the stuff you don’t want. Listen in as Jimmy and Todd talk about his biohacked wines, how he makes them sugar-free, why you don’t see ingredients or Nutrition Facts labels on wine bottles, why the alcohol dosage in his product is lower than most wines, how his wines are ketogenic-friendly compared with conventional wine, the additives they put into most wines (but not in Dry Farm Wines), how his wines taste more like kombucha, the mycotoxin issue in wines like coffee, and the sulfites in most wines that can be harmful to health. This is a fabulous interview for all you low-carb loving wine lovers.

An historic international event took place last month from February 19-22, 2015 in Cape Town, South Africa when a gathering of 17 of the world’s biggest experts on low-carb, high-fat, ketogenic diets gathered for a first-of-its-kind four-day medical conference called The Old Mutual Health Convention. Our host Jimmy Moore was asked to participate and he was privileged to help bring these speakers together for event organizer Karen Thomson from “Sugar Free Karen.” And one of the attendees who was reporting live on social media from the conference was a nutritionist named Emily Maguire from the “Low Carb Genesis” blog. These three share their thoughts about this incredible event that will be made available online very soon and is heading to London and Washington, DC over the next year.

Listen in to hear Jimmy, Karen, and Emily talk about how this event came about, the strong leadership Professor Tim Noakes is providing the LCHF movement in South Africa, the dream-turned-reality to put this conference on, how half of the medical professionals in attendance weren’t necessarily supporters of low-carb, high-fat at the beginning, highlights of the most memorable speakers, the amazing low-carb food served at the conference, the unveiling of an online event coming soon, plans for future conferences in the UK and USA, and so much more. History was made in South Africa and it’s only just the beginning of some exciting times coming in the next few years.

Our host Jimmy Moore is enjoying his time in the South Pacific on his 10-city tour through New Zealand and Australia visiting Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Tasmania, and more to share about his latest book Keto Clarity. He has lined up some great audio to listen to over the next few weeks from the August 2014 Low Carb Down Under Seminar Series. This is exclusive audio from some truly outstanding presentations about the benefits of low-carb, high-fat diets. A very special THANK YOU to Dr. Rod Tayler (listen to Jimmy’s interview with him in Episode 578) for granting permission to air all of these talks for “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show” podcast listeners. The high level of interest in Australia right now is so encouraging to see happening as they are leading the charge for providing quality information on low-carb, high-fat diets.

Today’s featured lecture is with one of the loudest voices on behalf of low-carb, high-fat diets who is stirring up quite the controversy in his home nation of South Africa (where Jimmy and many other low-carb luminaries will be speaking in February 2015). His name is Professor Tim Noakes who will be sharing his talk entitled “Medical Aspects of the Low Carbohydrate Lifestyle.” Here’s the video footage of this presentation from the August 2014 Low-Carb Down Under Seminar Series:
