657: LLVLC Classic – Dr. Dean Ornish Says There Is Common Ground Between Low-Fat And Low-Carb Diets

Dr. Dean Ornish on The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show With Jimmy Moore

Today we present a previously-aired, four-part interview with Dr. Dean Ornish, all in one remastered and re-formatted episode for your listening pleasure as part of our “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show Classic” series airing on Wednesdays while Jimmy is away writing his cholesterol book. Listen in as Dr. Ornish talks about his 2008 book release called The Spectrum and where he feels low-carbers and low-fat adherents should be in agreement.

This episode originally aired over four days in February and March of 2008 as Episodes 115-118 of The LLVLC Show. While we don’t have the original raw audio of the interview any longer, we were able to pull the audio from the published episodes and even improve it a bit with modern audio software!

What’s really interesting is that this isn’t the first time Jimmy interviewed Dr. Ornish. After their first interview took place with a tape recorder on speaker phone one month before the birth of this podcast, Dr. Ornish asked to come on this podcast and requested that Jimmy challenge him and be more assertive in taking on anything that he disagreed with. Of course, Jimmy didn’t need to be asked twice about doing this (and interestingly, Dr. Ornish has never asked to come back on the show again)! This one, while still polite, was far more challenging and a bit contentious at times as well. This is really an LLVLC Classic episode in every sense of the word! DON’T MISS IT!

655: LLVLC Classic – Dr. Annika Dahlqvist and Per Wikholm On Sweden’s LCHF Movement

Dr. Annika Dahlqvist on The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show

Hello and welcome back for a classic episode of the Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show With Jimmy Moore. While Jimmy’s off working on his forthcoming Cholesterol book, we’re featuring classic interviews every Wednesday. Today we have a pair of conversations from 2008 with Sweden’s celebrated Low-carb (or LCHF as they refer to it) advocates, Dr. Annika Dahlqvist and Per Wikholm.

Per Wikholm on The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show With Jimmy MooreDr. Dahlqvist was willing to put her entire medical career on the line to defend the low-carb nutritional approach in her home country of Sweden. Although the odds were stacked against her, she KNEW the science was on her side. In the end, she came out of this intense trial triumphant and strong as the Swedish government now promotes a low-carb diet alongside a low-fat one.

Next up, Per Wikholm brought us up-to-speed on what happened in the aftermath of Dr. Dahlqvist’s victory, including this 44-month study by Jörgen Vesti Nielsen comparing low-carb with low-fat diets for diabetics published in Nutrition & Metabolism, the reaction to this study from Dr. Dahlqvist, the revelation that the government leaders in charge of the new dietary guidelines are linked to the food industry (GASP–what a surprise! NOT!), and the real changes that are happening in the food purchasing habits of the Swedish people that reveal the LCHF message is sticking. You will be beaming with pride that this way of eating is not just surviving in Sweden, but thriving and on its way to producing BIG CHANGES in that country. If this can happen there, then I have all the confidence in the world we can make it happen in America as well!

648: Aglaee Jacob The Paleo Dietitian Encourages Real Food Nutrition

Aglaee Jacob on The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show With Jimmy Moore

Registered dietitian and naturopathic medical school student Aglaee Jacob is our guest in Episode 648 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Digestive Health by Agalee Jacob Conventional nutritional wisdom abounds abundantly amongst the majority of today’s primary educators about what constitutes a healthy menu plan–registered dietitians, aka RDs. Unfortunately, their definition of what “healthy” means usually ends up being a diet that is low in fat and calories, high in “healthy whole grains” and heavy on some pro-inflammatory omega-6-rich vegetable oil fats. But for Aglaee Jacob “The Paleo Dietitian”, she’s part of a brand new generation of RDs who are willing to stand up for what the science is saying regarding good nutrition and it bears little resemblance to the typical stuff you hear about regarding the relationship between food and health.

Aglaee was traditionally-trained in dietetics, but quickly lost her enthusiasm for it after years of failing to see the results with her clients that she thought they should. But after going through her own personal health struggles and realizing the power of the therapeutic use of Paleo nutrition and lifestyle strategies for herself, it rekindled her passion for helping improve the health of her clients. She’s the author of the April 15, 2013 release of the book Digestive Health with REAL Food: A Practical Guide to an Anti-Inflammatory, Nutrient Dense Diet for IBS & Other Digestive Issues dedicated to the subject of gut health. Listen in as Jimmy and Aglaee discuss the work she does and why she’s spreading the message on behalf of a lower-carb, higher-fat Paleo into the mainstream of registered dietitians. Let today’s podcast interview encourage you that a nutritional revolution is happening behind-the-scenes.

Trick and Treat by Dr. Barry Groves on LLVLC Dr. Barry Groves from “Second Opinions” was one of our all-time favorite guests on “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.” In this special re-airing of a two-part conversation Jimmy had with him several years back, you’ll hear Dr. Groves discuss the concepts in his amazing book Trick And Treat.

Dr. Barry Groves on LLVLC

Listen in as Jimmy and Dr. Gorves discuss virtually every major health subject out there today, including modern-day diseases, cholesterol, dietary fat, exercise, whole grains, soy, low-fat diets, and, of course, low-carb diets.
