Registered nurse-midwife and women’s health advocate Susan Fekety is our guest today in Episode 620 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!
Women these days face some rather unique health challenges requiring an effective diet and lifestyle strategy for overcoming those pesky little problems that tend to crop up. Unfortunately, the definition of what constitutes good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle change tends to be a low-fat, high-carb diet with lots of “healthy whole grains” and daily exercise. But Susan Fekety, RN, founder of Healthy Living Health Care in Falmouth, Maine, believes that scientifically-sound, intellectually honest, people-based health care is sorely needed in this day and age of rampant obesity, chronic disease and declining overall health.
Susan recognizes the importance of keeping hormones in balance, supporting healthy immunity, achieving normalized body weight, conceiving naturally, recharging libido, restoring authentic energy and preventing heart disease and diabetes. The way she gets her patients there is by addressing the carbohydrate quantity and quality as an essential element for women’s good health. Helping women eat in a way that is right for their metabolism is the centerpiece of Susan’s work. Listen in as Jimmy and Susan talk about the power of a low-carb nutritional approach, why traditional health care strategies are making women’s health worse and her belief that there is no one right way to eat since we are all so metabolically different.

Paleo health blogger Stefani Ruper is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!
Stefani, who goes affectionately by the nickname “Pepper,” has quite the story behind how she came to the Paleo diet in 2010. From sugar addiction to vegetarianism that led her down the path to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), she describes her switch to Paleo as “a truly transformative experience.” Nowadays she expresses her displeasure with the way food is promoted in America and the typical stereotypes that surround food (i.e. meat is for men and only women love chocolate). She’s unafraid to share how she really feels on her popular “Paleo Pepper” blog where a few “f” bombs are dropped here and there that would even make Richard Nikoley blush. Thanks to the education and influence from books by former podcast guests like Nora Gedgaudas and Mark Sisson, Stefani has found her way and is sharing it with the world in the only way she knows how–being herself! ENJOY this enlightening and engaging conversation with a woman who cuts through the BS and understands what you’re going through.
