With all the proliferation of information about the positive role fats play in our diet (especially in the context of a reduced-carbohydrate intake), it can sometimes get overwhelming trying to figure out what fats to consume and how much. As so many of you know, all fats are not created equal and some are better than others at giving you the benefits you are looking for. This is something a PhD in Lipid and Nutritional Biochemistry who also has some post-doctoral experience in lipid signaling molecular biology named Dr. Alvin Berger is abundantly aware of. He’s been researching this subject for the past three decades and has seen his fair share of games being played to bamboozle an unsuspecting general public, including with the much-beloved ketogenic fat so many of us use known as MCT oil. This is why he created a company that makes what is arguably the best quality MCT oil on the market today called KetoMCT. As you will quickly hear when you listen to him today, Dr. Berger has a keen ability to analyze research data to generate clear, concise reports and presentations for lay, business, and scientific audiences and he has been a featured published expert on signaling and nutritional aspects of lipids, with a broad knowledge of whole body metabolism and current trends in nutrition research and product development. You’re gonna love this interview if you have any interest in MCT oil at all.

Dr. Berger is a bona fide expert on something that is near and dear to so many of us–FAT! Soak in his wisdom in today’s episode.

When Gary Taubes and Dr. Peter Attia decided to create the nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization called the Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI) in 2012, it was their goal to provide a funding resource for creating well-designed human studies of the carbohydrate-insulin hypothesis. To add an extra layer of credibility to the research they’d be funding, Taubes and Dr. Attia asked researchers who have exhibited opposition to the low-carb, high-fat, ketogenic diet to do the investigations. One such well-known researcher is the Senior Investigator at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases named Dr. Kevin Hall who published his NuSI-funded study published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition entitled Energy expenditure and body composition changes after an isocaloric ketogenic diet in overweight and obese men. Of course, after this interview Dr. Hall did with Dr. Yoni Freedhoff about the study basically declaring the low-carb theory is total bunk, it became apparent we needed to get him on The LLVLC Show to answer some concerns about his research. Listen in as Jimmy and Dr. Hall go back and forth on the finer details of this study that many are calling flawed. Listen in and decide for yourself.

Over the past few years, the awareness of the dangers of consuming wheat has spread like wildfire thanks to runaway bestselling books like Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis and Grain Brain by Dr. David Perlmutter have shone a bright light on the negative health consequences of eating foods with wheat in them–which is practically everything in the processed food supply! Now Australian nutritionist and documentary filmmaker Cyndi O’Meara from ChangingHabits.com.au adds her voice to the conversation with the release of her compelling new documentary film entitled “What’s With Wheat?” featuring many familiar faces from the Paleo and low-carb communities, including Dr. Perlmutter, Dr. Terry Wahls, Joel Salatin, Dr. Stephanie Seneff, Pete Evans, Sally Fallon, Mark Sisson, and many more! Cyndi has become increasing frustrated by the traditional guidelines that promote low-fat diets as the be-all, end-all diet for everyone. Now she’s leading the charge from her home country of Australia to change the food habits of people worldwide.

Listen in as Jimmy and Cyndi discuss her journey to becoming a nutritionist, why she decided to start bucking the trend from the conventional nutritional wisdom, why she created her documentary film, the hope she had for making this film, and so much more! As this message continues to go mainstream, it’s important to have voices like Cyndi O’Meara leading the charge.
