702: Eric Merola Highlights Cancer Success With Antineoplastons In 2013 Burzynski Film

Screen Shot 2013-07-09 at 8.24.14 AM

Independent filmmaker Eric Merola is our guest today in Episode 702 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”

burzynski2 There are so many alternative therapies for diseases people are dealing with that are just not getting the exposure that they properly deserve. And it was the work of a Houston, TX-based physician named Dr. Stanlisow Burzynski using a process known as antineoplastons with cancer patients that attracted the attention of filmmaker Eric Merola to create a documentary highlighting the success of this alternative and controversial method. We first interviewed Eric in Episode 512 in 2011 about his explosive Burzynski: The Movie. Now he’s back again in 2013 with a brand new film entitled Burzynski: Cancer Is Serious Business Part 2 that features the real-life stories of patients who have seen their cancer improved thanks to Dr. Burzynski. Listen in as Jimmy and Eric talk about the reason why he made another documentary after such vicious and personal opposition to the work he is doing.

692: Dr. Amy Myers Brings A Fresh New Face To Functional Medicine

amy-myers

First-time filmmaker and low-carb, high-fat diet advocate Donal O’Neill and functional medicine physician and health blogger/podcaster Dr. Amy Myers are our guests today in Episode 692 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”

donal-oneill We are constantly on the lookout for people who are doing great work on behalf of helping others cut through the morass of information about nutrition and health. Donal O’Neill from “Let Fat Be Thy Medicine” most certainly fits that description. He decided he wanted to make a film highlighting and featuring the great carbohydrate-restriction work of two former LLVLC Show podcast guests Professor Tim Noakes from South Africa and Dr. John Briffa from the UK. The footage for this outstanding new movie called Cereal Killers is already underway and Donal needs YOUR help with his Kickstarter fundraising campaign to get it finished and out there to make an impact on the way we eat. Listen in at the very beginning as Jimmy (who has seen the one-hour of proof of concept footage) and Donal discuss in a brief 10-minute mini-interview why he personally decided to do this project, his self-experiment for the film eating a low-carb, high-fat diet and the hopes and dreams he has for taking the message of this film to a worldwide audience! PLEASE HELP SUPPORT THIS EFFORT!

Podcast-myers-way7 Then in the main interview for Episode 692, we are pleased to welcome an Austin, TX-based functional medicine physician named Dr. Amy Myers who has her own unique brand of treating patients she calls “The Myers Way.” After being mentored by two of the giants in the world of nutritional health–Dr. Andrew Weil and Dr. Mark Hyman–Dr. Myers opened her own practice called Austin UltraHealth and even ventured into the world of health podcasting recently with her brand new “The Myers Way Podcast.” Listen in as Jimmy and Dr. Myers discuss how she grew up in a health-conscious family, why she decided to choose functional medicine over becoming a naturopath, the media opportunities she has been given as an articulate spokesperson for health, why she is one of the rare medical doctors who blogs and podcasts and so much more! If you’ve been curious about what a functional medicine physician looks and sounds like, then don’t miss what Dr. Amy Myers has to share in today’s show.

611: Justin Smith Exposes Cholesterol Lies With $TATIN NATION Documentary

Justin-Smith

British cholesterol skeptic, author and documentary filmmaker Justin Smith is our guest today in Episode 611 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Fans of this podcast have long known about the lies we’ve been told about the role of cholesterol in heart disease. Conventional wisdom tells us that the higher your total cholesterol, the greater risk you have of getting a heart attack and developing atherosclerosis. Therefore, pharmaceutical companies argue, higher lipid levels require medications like statin drugs to bring them down to “safe” levels. HOGWASH!

You may recall hearing Justin Smith on this podcast previously in Episode 438 discussing his book $29 Billion Reasons to Lie About Cholesterol: Making Profit By Turning Healthy People Into Patients. But he was ready to take the message from his book and bring it to life in a documentary film as he shared with us in Episode 504 in late 2011. Thus was birthed a documentary that is now available to the public called $TATIN NATION. You can download $TATIN NATION for streaming rental RIGHT NOW below:

http://muvi.es/w1375/49718

We were very honored to have this podcast recognized with a “Special Thanks” in the closing credits of the documentary:

Featuring lots of bona fide experts on cholesterol and statins that have been featured previously on “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show” podcast (including Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, Dr. Barry Groves, Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride and Dr. Uffe Ravnskov), $TATIN NATION is an engaging, fast-paced and informative just over hour-long documentary that will keep you captivated from start to finish. Listen in as Jimmy speaks with Justin about his film, what he is hoping to communicate through it and his best hopes and dreams for the project. ENJOY!

595: Support Filmmaker Kennon Hulett’s Documentary In Defense Of Fat

bilde

Freelance editor and independent science documentary filmmaker Kennon Hulett is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Jimmy often talks about the need for people to find what they’re good at and to use those gifts and talents to promote the right messages about health. And in this day and age when people are more apt to watch a fun documentary film (see how popular my buddy Tom Naughton‘s film FAT HEAD was for evidence of this) than to read some science-y book on a controversial nutritional subject, it’s good to know we have some truly remarkable people working hard behind-the-scenes to produce high-quality video projects that fit the bill.

Enter Kennon Hulett.

This Southern girl excelled in film school graduating with honors in both film making and dramatic writing. She’s already directed her first feature film and has been involved in various projects here and there. In late 2011, Kennon decided to start a brand new film company called Falling Whale Films dedicated to making “independent, highly accessible science documentaries” available to the public. Her first big project is called In Defense Of Fat: Rethinking The Bad Science Eating At America’s Health. As you can imagine, this documentary will focus on the alternative science that says dietary fat is NOT a culprit in obesity and heart disease.

And Kennon has already got some BIG NAMES in the Paleo/low-carb community lined up, ready-to-go for interviews to be used in her film, including Dr. Robert Lustig, Robb Wolf, Mark Sisson, Denise Minger, Sarah Fragoso and Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt. Listen in as Jimmy and Kennon talk about her ambitious film idea that is so sorely needed now more than ever and how YOU can get involved in helping her make it possible by supporting her Kickstarter page to raise the funds necessary to make this film dream into a reality!

ENJOY!

Burzynski. Listen in as Jimmy and Eric talk about the reason why he made another documentary after such vicious and personal opposition to the work he is doing.

Burzynski. Listen in as Jimmy and Eric talk about the reason why he made another documentary after such vicious and personal opposition to the work he is doing.
