British cholesterol skeptic, author and documentary filmmaker Justin Smith is our guest today in Episode 611 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!
Fans of this podcast have long known about the lies we’ve been told about the role of cholesterol in heart disease. Conventional wisdom tells us that the higher your total cholesterol, the greater risk you have of getting a heart attack and developing atherosclerosis. Therefore, pharmaceutical companies argue, higher lipid levels require medications like statin drugs to bring them down to “safe” levels. HOGWASH!
You may recall hearing Justin Smith on this podcast previously in Episode 438 discussing his book $29 Billion Reasons to Lie About Cholesterol: Making Profit By Turning Healthy People Into Patients. But he was ready to take the message from his book and bring it to life in a documentary film as he shared with us in Episode 504 in late 2011. Thus was birthed a documentary that is now available to the public called $TATIN NATION. You can download $TATIN NATION for streaming rental RIGHT NOW below:
http://muvi.es/w1375/49718
We were very honored to have this podcast recognized with a “Special Thanks” in the closing credits of the documentary:

Featuring lots of bona fide experts on cholesterol and statins that have been featured previously on “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show” podcast (including
Dr. Malcolm Kendrick,
Dr. Barry Groves,
Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride and
Dr. Uffe Ravnskov),
$TATIN NATION is an engaging, fast-paced and informative just over hour-long documentary that will keep you captivated from start to finish. Listen in as Jimmy speaks with Justin about his film, what he is hoping to communicate through it and his best hopes and dreams for the project. ENJOY!

Freelance editor and independent science documentary filmmaker Kennon Hulett is our guest today on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!
Jimmy often talks about the need for people to find what they’re good at and to use those gifts and talents to promote the right messages about health. And in this day and age when people are more apt to watch a fun documentary film (see how popular my buddy Tom Naughton‘s film FAT HEAD was for evidence of this) than to read some science-y book on a controversial nutritional subject, it’s good to know we have some truly remarkable people working hard behind-the-scenes to produce high-quality video projects that fit the bill.
Enter Kennon Hulett.
This Southern girl excelled in film school graduating with honors in both film making and dramatic writing. She’s already directed her first feature film and has been involved in various projects here and there. In late 2011, Kennon decided to start a brand new film company called Falling Whale Films dedicated to making “independent, highly accessible science documentaries” available to the public. Her first big project is called In Defense Of Fat: Rethinking The Bad Science Eating At America’s Health. As you can imagine, this documentary will focus on the alternative science that says dietary fat is NOT a culprit in obesity and heart disease.
And Kennon has already got some BIG NAMES in the Paleo/low-carb community lined up, ready-to-go for interviews to be used in her film, including Dr. Robert Lustig, Robb Wolf, Mark Sisson, Denise Minger, Sarah Fragoso and Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt. Listen in as Jimmy and Kennon talk about her ambitious film idea that is so sorely needed now more than ever and how YOU can get involved in helping her make it possible by supporting her Kickstarter page to raise the funds necessary to make this film dream into a reality!

Kristin Canty of Farmageddon and Eric Merola of Burzynski: The Movie join us in this episode of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!
Today we are thrilled to share with you interviews featuring two fantastic health-related documentaries and the people behind them. Kristin is a mom who became so fed up with the strong-arm tactics of government entities like the FDA on family farms who are merely trying to provide real food to consumers that she decided to expose the kind of tactics being used to suppress this from happening. She makes a powerful statement in Farmageddon while hopefully opening the eyes of those who are just not aware that something like this could happen in the United States of America over food.
We also hear from Eric in the second interview who became so enamored by the story of Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski and his incredible treatment discovery for people dealing with cancer that he knew he had to tell this story in a documentary. The logistical nightmares that Dr. Burzynski has had to face over the past two decades would have easily broken most people–but he remained strong and always kept his focus on the health of his patients, many of which stand up for him in this film. Burzynski: The Movie is one of the most powerful documentaries I’ve ever seen and I am pleased to share this interview with the filmmaker in today’s episode.

Hello and welcome back to your favorite health and nutrition podcast The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore! Today, Jimmy talks with and proudly introduces you to a documentarian (and comedian) named Tom Naughton.
Tom has a real beef with Morgan Spurlock, the infamous creator of Supersize Me. As you may recall, Spurlock’s claim to fame made the assertion that fast food specifically from McDonald’s is leading the U.S. into an obesity epidemic by offering unhealthy, addictive food and pushing larger and larger food servings. In contrast, though, Tom Naughton’s response documentary, FAT HEAD, claims that this is “a load of bologna!”
We hear from Tom in today’s interview about some of the key themes of FAT HEAD: namely that it shows that obesity is NOT an epidemic, is overdiagnosed, is not a disease and is not a death sentence. Further, with the help of some key low-carb consultants Dr. Mike Eades and Gary Taubes, he shows that it is very possible to lose weight AND improve your health markers on a purely fast food diet by simply applying some common sense and avoiding insulin triggering menu items.
