So on Wednesdays, he decided to air some of his favorite older LLVLC Show Classic episodes that are no longer on iTunes. And today we have the last one before he returns to his normal podcasting schedule next week and it’s a great one featuring a Senior Research Scientist in the Computer Science and Artficial Intelligence Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute For Technology (MIT) named Stephanie Seneff (who was one of Jimmy’s featured experts in his 2013 book Cholesterol Clarity). Dr. Seneff has long been sounding the alarm on the detrimental role of carbohydrates in our diet and how it has led to rampant obesity and chronic disease. If you’ve never heard her before, then you are in for a real treat. Since the original airing of this interview, Dr. Seneff has gone on to sound the alarm on the role GMOs and glyphosphate in products like RoundUp are having on the prevalence of the development autism in children (watch the video below).

It seems the more conventional medicine tries to deal with the chronic diseases of our modern day, the more stark their failure at getting to the root causes of these health problems appears. That’s why there has been a rise in the number of Functional Medicine practitioners in recent years attempting to correct these errors and helping patients truly find a pathway back to health again. That’s the heart soul of a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based Functional Medicine practitioner and clinical nutritionist named Dr. Will Cole. He sees patients in person in the Pittsburgh area as well as via telephone or Skype around the world to help them with a wide variety of common health problems with a customized solution tailored just for them.

Listen in as Jimmy and Dr. Cole discuss the major differences between the way Functional Medicine and Conventional Medicine handle health problems, how the labs and analysis of functional medicine doctors is different, the lack of knowledge from standard doctors regarding what to do with autoimmune disease, the problem with only looking at TSH to determine overall thyroid health, the carbohydrate connection to diabetes, and so much more! The low-carb, high-fat message has been gaining lots of momentum around the world in recent years in places like Sweden, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. But one of the challenges of spreading the message of healthy nutrition to more of the world is having resources in the major languages. For a medical doctor from Bolivia, the lack of information for the Spanish-speaking population was greatly concerning. That’s what motivated internal medicine and obesity medicine physician Dr. Carlos Jordan to take it upon himself to create an new iTunes app called an Interactive Guide To Lose Weight (Guia interactiva para bajar de peso) in Spanish to give good information to people who speak Spanish.

Listen in to hear Jimmy and Dr. Jordan discuss how his grandmother got him interested in medicine, his high-carb nutritional background as a tennis player, why he turned to obesity medicine being a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians where he met Dr. Eric Westman, why real food and low-carb are equally important, what his patients thought about his transition to low-carb nutrition, how he increases compliance to going low-carb, how the fixation on low-fat that has made treating diabetes more difficult, why insulin is not the answer to Type 2 diabetes, what his fellow medical professionals think about what he’s doing with his patients, how his patients mostly have some form of metabolic disease, his new 99-cent Spanish language health app called an Interactive Guide To Lose Weight (Guia interactiva para bajar de peso), why he decided to make an app instead of a book or other resource, and what the response has been like from patients so far.

One of the most debilitating neurodegenerative diseases of our day is Alzheimer’s disease. Within research circles, this condition is widely known as “Type 3 diabetes” because of the blood sugar and insulin connection to the disease. For a Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner with a Master’s Degree in Human Nutrition named Amy Berger, she has been very interested in the indelible relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and nutrition. What she discovered was how a real foods-based low-carb, high-fat, ketogenic diet is the key to controlling high insulin levels that are leading to the development and progression of Alzheimer’s disease. She’s written a compelling new e-book about this subject entitled The Alzheimer’s Antidote: A Comprehensive Nutrition And Lifestyle Strategy To Fight Alzheimer’s Disease, Memory Loss And Cognitive Decline and Amy and Jimmy dig deeply into this topic in today’s episode!

Listen in as Jimmy and Amy talk about how she followed all the typical nutrition advice and wasn’t seeing results, why the low-carb message doesn’t get more traction despite the overwhelming science supporting it, how scary it is to start eating more fat after years of fat-phobia, what got her interested in the subject of Alzheimer’s disease, how she made the connection between insulin, glucose, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s, former podcast guest Dr. Larry McCleary called Alzheimer’s Type 3 diabetes many years ago, the mechanism about how Alzheimer’s disease develops and progresses with a high-carb diet, the ApoE 4 genotype makes you more susceptible to getting Alzheimer’s disease with a poor carb-rich diet, doctors think people with Alzheimer’s need to keep the brain active and take drugs, the drugs created to remove the amyloid plaque that doesn’t fix Alzheimer’s, why younger people are getting early onset Alzheimer’s now, how we’ve been scared away from consuming the very foods that could protect the brain, the very gradual development of Alzheimer’s and dementia, the statin drugs and prescription antacids are a huge problem in neurodegenerative disease development, the story of Dr. Mary Newport treating her husband with early onset Alzheimer’s disease, why a real foods-based low-carb diet is the best way to do this, and the non-diet ways you can improve your brain health.

We’ve always been impressed by the information shared by Dr. Seneff and this was our first experience that you will quickly see why this became an LLVLC Show Classic episode. ENJOY!

We’ve always been impressed by the information shared by Dr. Seneff and this was our first experience that you will quickly see why this became an LLVLC Show Classic episode. ENJOY!

We’ve always been impressed by the information shared by Dr. Seneff and this was our first experience that you will quickly see why this became an LLVLC Show Classic episode. ENJOY!

In the months of June and July, our host Jimmy Moore has been taking some time away from his regular podcast schedule.

Listen in as Jimmy and Dr. Seneff discuss how she became interested in nutrition as an MIT researcher, how her daughter-in-law getting put on statins got her “obsessed” with looking into this topic, the published research she has had in prominent medical journals, how sugar radically damages small LDL particle, how to get the low-carb, high-fat message out to the masses, the tactics used by pharmaceutical companies to drum of fear about cholesterol, the intricate role carbohydrates play in Alzheimer’s disease (aka Type 3 diabetes), four rising health issues connected to having low LDL cholesterol, why she believes nobody should ever take a statin drug, why eating fructose is sure to lead to stored body fat, the health consequences of having a chronic deficiency in dietary fat, vitamin D, calcium and sulfur, what has happened to health as a result of demonizing cholesterol and sunbathing, why you want to be taking vitamin D sulfate and not vitamin D2 prescribed by your doctor, and so much more! We’ve always been impressed by the information shared by Dr. Seneff and this was our first experience that you will quickly see why this became an LLVLC Show Classic episode. ENJOY!
