Hello and welcome back to The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Today Jimmy shares his conversation with Nina Planck author of the bestselling book Real Food: What To Eat And Why. In this interview, she addresses ways recent and expecting mothers as well as their children can benefit from eating healthy “real” foods, as explained in her 2009 release, Real Food For Mother And Baby: The Fertility Diet, Eating for Two, and Baby’s First Foods.

Although Nina is a reader favorite over at Jimmy’s blog, this is her first appearance on the podcast, so please be sure to catch this fantastic chat!

PODCAST UPDATE: Boy, do we sure want to thank everyone for their patience while we continue to grapple with the fallout of our prior server issues. At the moment, episodes from 2007-early 2009 are not available online in any way. Kevin is working to rectify that, but the earliest episodes (2006) are already here at this website as are the last couple months. We’ll keep you apprised of the progress. THANK YOU again for all of your support!

Thank you very much, Mr. Moore, for such a wonderful interview with Ms. Nina Planck. I must admit that I did not know her, and have to hurry up just to know her background. I have three questions for her, if I could ask you to relay them to her.

    (1) Atherosclerosis has been found in children, as young as 3-6 months old. Could she advise me how we should better design baby formula and foods to stop the trend?
    (2) We used to believe congenital malformations were genetic disorders. But we know now that they are strongly related to hyperglycemia or diabetes mellitus (see my book, Carbohydrates Can Kill and my blog.) To prepare a conception and gestation for a healthy baby, I, based on my literature review, tend to believe keeping the maternal blood glucose within normal range at all time is crucial. What is her suggestion?
    (3) In related to both (1) and (2), I, again based my literature review, believe that dietary factors strongly linked to the development of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. We have seen Type 1 DM happened in babies as young as just a couple of months. Could Ms. Planck offer any dietary suggestion(s) for preventing Type 1 DM and even Type 2 from happening in children?

As a physician, I have always wanted to learn from someone who is knowledgeable in pediatric nutrition. I hope that I have found one.

Eatting for two can be taken the wrong way, but you should take that as making sure you get the nutrients you need for two. I’ve always been a beliver in a good muti-vitamin on a daily basis.
