- A Healthy Or An Unhealthy Lifestyle Change–It’s YOUR Choice! (Episode 112)
In today’s show, our host Jimmy Moore looks at the latest research from the UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) asserting that those who are eating an unhealthy diet tend to eat the same kinds of foods without regard to their economic status. That’s right, rich and poor alike are eating the exact same sugary, breaded-and-fried crud. This completely flies in the face of the popular assumptions that poverty has a unique effect in creating poor dietary habits or conversely that obesity is caused by “affluenza.” What’s Jimmy’s take away message on this? Simply that eating poorly is a lifestyle choice made by individuals–exactly the same as eating healthy foods is.
- Interview: CNN’s ‘Fit Nation’ Weight Loss Poster Boy, Phill Novak (Episode 111)

Phill became a beloved icon for weight loss after he was profiled on CNN’s Fit Nation, but the story failed to get into what Phill actually ate to lose all the weight. Never fear, Jimmy Moore is here to get to the bottom of the rest of the story!

When taking a journey to lose weight and get healthy, it is sadly common to run into negative people who undermine your self-confidence by insinuating or even saying straight out that you will NOT succeed, or worse yet, that you CANNOT succeed. How many would-be weight loss success stories have been discouraged from even trying before they even start? Well, our host Jimmy had a personal life experience very much like that when he was in the 8th grade and he’d like to share an awesome story of how rebelling against that bad advice has lead to the rewarding career he enjoys today!

In today’s episode, our host Jimmy interviews courageous Swedish doctor Annika Dahlqvist, who quite literally put her career on the line to advocate a low-carb diet in Sweden because she believed so strongly that it was best for her patients. In the end, the government investigation in Sweden spurred on by Annika’s personal experience and insistence on the health benefits of livin’ la vida low-carb found that a low-carb, high-fat diet (LCHF) is just as valid as a low-fat approach. The Swedish government now promotes low-carb alongside low-fat in their official health guidelines! Way to go Dr. Dahlqvist!

Today (and coming up in episode 95, as well) we have a rare treat: an audio interview with the man many consider the king of the low-fat diet gurus–Dr. Dean Ornish. As it turns out, Dr. Ornish really doesn’t like to focus on the low-fat label and is more interested in telling Jimmy why he’s misunderstood. You’ll be interested in how much some of his plans have in common with the Atkins approach. Well…from his perspective, anyway.
- Heidi Diaz: Don’t Let The Door Hit Ya! (Episode 94)
In today’s episode, our host Jimmy takes a chronological look at the events — and the seemingly unlimited lies — that lead up to the collapse of Heidi “Kimmer” Diaz’s credibility as a “Diet Guru.” If you don’t know the full story, there are some very interesting recent developments involving Heidi’s own family and the ownership of the Kimkins web site itself.
- The Bad Fat Brothers Need a Spanking (Episode 93)
Jimmy introduces you to the perfectly awful team of Sat and Trans–aka The Bad Fat Brothers. Have you seen or heard them yet? They are a pair of cartoon characters that parade a long list of foods guaranteed to stop your heart dead in its tracks – mostly very high-carb foods – and then tell you that the fats in these dishes are what makes them deadly! Um, isn’t the main ingredient in a “loaded baked potato” a potato…with tons of carbohydrates? Isn’t the main ingredient in a donut, errrrrr, dough?! Listen in as Jimmy serves up a healthy, steaming portion of public scorn for this incredibly shallow propaganda campaign from the American Heart Association!

Then, Jimmy follows up with Heidi “Kimmer” Diaz, attempting to ask questions about a recent KTLA-TV exposé on her diet and her allegedly current morbid obesity. Does she have any answers? - Imagine a World Where Carbs are Evil and Fat is Respected By The FDA (Episode 91)

Could this actually come to pass? We think so, but it will be a blessing if we live long enough to see it! Listen in for Jimmy’s take on the future of nutritional recommendations.
- A Psychotic Ramble About The True Meaning of Obesity (Episode 90)
Listen in while Jimmy dissects this letter from a sad “former fat man” who felt compelled to share his rather odd opinions about being obese. It is full of anger, self-hate, bad humor, accusations, philosophy, semantic and linguistic critiques, disappointment, and rudeness. In the end, the writer seems to be using Jimmy as a Freudian surrogate punching bag for his own issues. See how well our host does in rebutting this insane, psychotic ramble. It’s fun, fun, fun for the entire family!

- Ready To Join The Calorie Restriction Society? We Hope Not! (Episode 88)
Today, in Episode 88, our host Jimmy once again tackles the concept of low-calorie, low-fat, low-enthusiasm, low-energy, low-pleasure diets so often foisted upon us by the mainstream media and those few remaining doctors who have yet to hop on the clue-train. The latest suspects are the “Calorie Restriction Society” and their insistence that you should keep lowering and lowering your caloric intake for the sake of health. UGH!
- Staying The Course Through Those Inevitable Upswings (Episode 87)
Jimmy takes a look at why you should never panic when (that’s right, he said WHEN!) you encounter an unexpected weight gain in the course of your low-carb weight loss experience. As he says in this episode, Jimmy has never met anyone this hasn’t happened to–especially those who have lost significant amounts of weight. Far from being a harbinger of inevitable failure, these slight weight gains are just a simple roadblock that can be overcome in as little as two weeks and a reminder to you that this is a lifelong journey to better health. If you’ve struggled to have children, then this is a podcast you WON’T want to miss! ENJOY!
- The Unique Role of Carbohydrates in a Low-Carb Diet (Episode 83)
Outside the world of low-carb living, carbohydrates are often maligned, frequently ignored and almost universally shunned by the media and those self-proclaimed “experts” who think they know what this way of eating is all about. But the truth is that on most low-carb plans, there are some carbs that play important roles and should obviously be a regular part of your regular low-carb routine. Listen in for our host Jimmy’s thoughts on the benefits of consuming carbohydrates! This one’s a keeper!
- Metabolism: A Child Wants To Know And A Student Has The Answer (Episode 82)
Recently a grade school child wrote to her local newspaper in Binghamton, New York with an excellent (although oddly worded) health question about metabolism. Listen in to hear this excellent query and Lina’s great answer that would make Dr. Atkins proud!
- Come Boom Or Bust, Low-Carb Will Always Survive (Episode 81)

As Jimmy will show us in today’s show, it’s just a sign that increased energy is on the way–quite possibly the most energy you’ve ever had!
- The Role of the Obese In 21st Century Hollywood (Episode 78)
Today, our host Jimmy looks at the two-sided issue of the depiction of obesity in Hollywood films. While it is a good thing (from our perspective) that movies are more comfortable having overweight protagonists, there is a decidedly dark side, too. Oftentimes, these roles go to svelte actors in “fat suits.” Then, the way these characters are depicted on screen plays right in to asinine stereotypes (fat people are jolly, goofy, effeminate…take your pick). Put those two factors together, and it’s starting to look kinda like a fatty-fatty-two-by-four minstrel show.
- Connie Bennett’s ‘Stop SUGAR SHOCK!’ Interview With Jimmy Moore (Episode 77)

One of these extremely educated bariatric physicians Jimmy spoke with was Dr. Allen Rader from Medical Bariatrics in Idaho. Jimmy was extremely impressed by Dr. Rader’s unique approach to visualizing carbs, why he avoids use the phrase “falling off the wagon” with his patients, and how a person’s commitment to weight loss is more important than the speed at which they lose. This one’s a real low-carb treat for you indeed!
- Jimmy Moore and Jonny Bowden: Two Low-Carb Masters Compare Notes (Episode 75)
Today we are proud to offer a rebroadcast of a great interview that happened last week between our host Jimmy and low-carbist expertus extrordinaire Dr. Jonny Bowden. - Incomplete Low-Carb Research Leads To Misleading Headlines (Episode 74)
Today our host Jimmy looks at how some admittedly incomplete research was prominently featured in the media simply to get a negative headline about the low-carb lifestyle and specifically the Atkins diet as it relates to heart health. Hmm, where have we seen THAT before? Because the so-called research reported preliminary results that were pro-low-fat and anti-low-carb, Jimmy cites two other prominent studies which totally debunk the whole affair and send it unraveling fast! Nothing beats sensationalism like the cold hard facts and that’s what you get in Episode 74.
- Donuts: Let’s Just Say You Don’t Need ‘Em (Episode 73)
Today, our host Jimmy takes a look at those little hoops of pure evil–aka donuts–and the merchants of death who are peddling them! A little over the top, you say? Jimmy’s five-part conversation with Kimmer of the now-infamous Kimkins diet has been one of the most popular podcast topics we’ve ever covered here. Quite literally, people on all sides of this issue have seen their arguments validated by what they have or have not heard from Kimmer so far in the interview. And this debate has spilled over heavily into the comments section of each of the last two shows. Because of that, Jimmy has decided that we should accelerate the pace a bit and run the three remaining segments in Episode 72 today. In other words, we’re gonna get to the REALLY juicy parts now.
Jimmy asks Kimmer the really tough questions like:
Who are Heidi Diaz and Kim Drake?
Were there fake before and after success story photos?
Did she blow off meeting with Woman’s World cover girl Christin?
Also, see all the other assumed names Kimmer has written under. - Jimmy Moore’s Interview With Kimmer From Kimkins: Part 2 (Episode 71)

- The Storm Over Kimmer and The Kimkins Diet (Episode 69)
In today’s show, our host Jimmy takes on the challenge of addressing the recent strong opposition that a vocal minority has directed against Kimmer, the creator of the Kimkins diet. Questions have swirled about who she is and whether her diet is a bona fide fraud. Eventually, these folks were shown to be correct–Kimmer was a fraud. At the time of this episode, there was little, if any direct and conclusive evidence that Heidi Diaz was running a huge con at Kimkins.com.
- Christine Moore Embraces Low-Carb–And Jimmy, Too! (Episode 68)
Welcome to the super-spiffy 68th episode of the Internet’s most popular low-carb podcast, “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show With Jimmy and Christine Moore!” Say what?! While the audio quality is not up to our usual standards (Part Two will be a bit better), we’re sure you will enjoy it just the same.
- Jimmy Moore Chats With Bariatric Physician Dr. Scott Rigden (Episode 64)
In the Spring (’07), our host Jimmy was privileged to be a part of an obesity conference in Nashville, TN sponsored by the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP). In Episode 64, we present the final interview–a talk with the charming and very personable Dr. Scott Rigden of Chandler, AZ. Dr. Rigden is yet another bariatric physician who is very comfortable with the concept of carbohydrate restriction, healthy fats and livin’ la vida low-carb!
