Why would you not want to cut your carbs as low as possible (and stay LOW)? If we don't need them (we don't), then why bother with all of their supposedly healthy sources? And to say that some carbs are better than others is wrong. A carb is carb, whether it's a Pillsbury biscuit, a regular Coke, or broccoli. Vegetables and fruits of any carb level are not essential for health.

May I second the BRAVO!!!!

I read the article and I can agree with the bold statments in principle (with the possible exception of dairy). But, as they say, the devil is in the details and many of the details are BS. She falls into the same trap of lumping healthy, natural saturated fat with trans fat. And whole grains? Better than refined grains, but still not the best thing for you.

BTW, I function better on 20 - 50 g of carbs a day than I ever did at 130+!!!

As summer is winding down, I will probably wind up lowering my fruit and veggie intake, cause I pig out on fresh produce in summer.

I limit serving size of blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, watermelon, cantalope, and honeydew melons to a cup at a time. Or a whole kiwifruit or a peach. Not for breakfast, as fruit spikes my bg too much in the morning, but often for lunch or dinner or both. I love fresh fruit.

Even though I must limit fruit portions, with all the fresh stuff at this time of year, I eat close to two pounds per day of fruits and veggies.

I do not limit non-starchy veggies at all - I *count* the carbs, as I must to dose insulin properly, but I don't limit them. There's nothing wrong with having a big pile of baby salad greens, no matter how big the pile is! You can easily put a whole bok choy into a stirfry sized for two, on top of other veggies.

It's not hard to do a couple pounds of fresh produce with a veggie side at breakfast, a salad and some fruit as lunch, and a stirfry and more fruit at dinnertime.

I eat 50-80g net carb per day in the summer... most of it from fresh produce. In winter, my enthusiasm wanes a bit as I rely more on frozen fruits and veggies and my carb count drops a bit with a higher proportion of carbs from dairy.

This is not a "weight loss" phase for me; this is my day-in/day-out way of eating to manage my diabetes.

I can't see how anyone could be constipated on a diet with this much fresh produce - especially with the high fat levels to lubricate things.

Everyone focuses on meat as the mainstay of a low-carb diet. And if you measure by calories, I agree most of a low-carb diet is meat.

However, by volume or by weight, my diet is mostly fresh produce and I'd really like to see someone noticing that most low-carbers eat WAY more of this stuff than most high-carbers do. Most people don't even get the "five a day" recommended by the USDA pyramid. Whereas low-carbers eat VEGGIES! We do it like CRAZY!
