Hello and welcome to Episode 46 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore” as we share the positive and healthy message of the low-carb lifestyle to literally thousands of listeners each and every week. I appreciate your devotion and dedication to learning and spreading the good news about the low-carb life to your friends, family, and loved ones to encourage them to lose weight and get healthy.

One of the ways you can help yourself and anyone else who is on a low-carb diet is by embracing products that will help you stay devoted to low-carb living while not sacrificing on the taste or quality. That’s exactly what you get from Dreamfields pasta. You’ve heard me raving about Dreamfields low-carb pasta at my blog for over two years now because I’m a big fan of their high-fiber, healthy alternative to the regular carb-loaded versions that have made us all fat. WIth the authentic taste of Dreamfields, you can enjoy all of your favorite Italian dishes again with the confidence you are eating a nutritious and delicious low-carb alternative. Learn more about these amazing noodles by visiting DreamfieldsFoods.com/Livin-La-Vida. And be sure to go to the show notes section at TheLivinLowCarbShow.com to find a special homemade baked macaroni & cheese recipe that I posted at my blog this week. Mmmm, pasta is back for low-carbers thanks to Dreamfields!

I recently received a great e-mail from one of my LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com blog readers who said she is a dedicated follower of the low-carb lifestyle and will continue to eat this way for the rest of her life. However, just like everyone else who eventually comes to low-carb, she was once on the Weight Watchers program and even lost 108 pounds because of what she called “sheer willpower.” Yep, I can relate to that. That’s how I lost 170 pounds on a miserable low-fat diet in 1999. Of course, got so tired of being constantly hungry and biting the head off of those I loved the most that I rebelled against the diet. Within four months, all of that weight was right back on me again. Sound familiar anyone?

The main concern of my reader was with something I wrote at my blog about a man who alleged failed on low-carb and then went to Weight Watchers instead. Here’s what I wrote: “I wonder how many pizza slices and cheeseburgers they let him eat on THAT diet?! I would venture to say ZIP, ZERO, NADA!” I was responding to a person who said he couldn’t keep doing low-carb because he was not allowed to have pizza and cheeseburgers while livin’ la vida low-carb. My point was that Weight Watchers wouldn’t allow him to have those foods either. That’s where my reader wanted to clarify that point for me. Here’s what she wrote: “I’m only defending Weight Watchers because I wouldn’t want people to accuse you of not understanding that diet the way all others trash low carb because they don’t understand it. Weight Watchers says you can eat anything, you just have to account for it. I had pizza and cheeseburgers many times during my weight loss. Couldn’t eat much else all day, but there you have it.” Actually, although I have never been on the Weight Watchers diet myself, I am pretty familiar with their points system. I understand how it works, but the fact is you can’t eat that way everyday in the quantities that you want and still expect to lose weight. With low-carb, there are virtually NO limitations to the amount of those products (with just a few minor modifications) that you can eat while low-carbing. Therefore, the person who said he missed pizza and hamburgers while he was on a low-carb diet actually could have had as much of them he wanted and still lose weight. This is in stark contrast to his Weight Watchers program, which he claims is a permanent weight loss solution. We shall see about that.

As for my reader who used to be on Weight Watchers, she said she “stayed at [her] goal weight for about an hour or two.” That’s too funny! But, sadly, it’s true. I can certainly relate because I also felt that way after my low-fat weight loss. She added, “After that, it was a steady climb back up the scales. I wish I had discovered low carb right then as I’m sure it would have helped me maintain the loss. I didn’t gain it all back, but enough to frustrate me into trying Atkins.” We are all so thickheaded about our weight problem, but eventually come to the realization that livin’ la vida low-carb is the only way to permanently remove this albatross from around our necks once and for all. It may have taken us a while to get here, but we finally did it for real this time! And our lives will never be the same again! My reader added, “No more cravings, no more digestive upsets, no more dissatisfaction, and I’m always in a great mood.” And she’s right. She admits she has some work left to do on her low-carb lifestyle, but she knows she will be “much healthier and happier than” she was on Weight Watchers. Amen to that! I think I’ll go celebrate with some pizza and cheeseburgers!

I’m so privileged to see some of the people I have been able to come into contact with now telling others about the amazingly healthy low-carb lifestyle change that has happened to them. One such example of this came to me in my e-mail inbox from a regular reader who is a Type 2 diabetic and has lost 90 pounds on the low-carb lifestyle. He wanted to show his support for a co-worker who had joined Weight Watchers, so he went to the meeting with her. Although he does not support the nutritional approach of the Weight Watchers program, he wanted to be a part of the group for “mutual support.” Not surprisingly, the members of the group wanted to know more about his amazing weight loss success and how he had been able to control his diabetes through his diet. He said, “I was pretty nervous about how it would be received. I especially didn’t want to come across as bashing Weight Watchers.”

So, he took the plunge and simply shared from his heart about how he battled with weight problems his entire life going on diet after diet, including Weight Watchers, and that none of them worked for him. He made it very clear that he is not against Weight Watchers for those people who can do it and succeed. He told them, “It wasn’t the best approach for me” and continued to talk about his neverending battle with obesity when he was always hungry and craving food. My reader explained to them that he threw his hands up in the air and just gave up trying to lose weight in the Summer of 2005. But then it happened–in January 2006 he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes! When he was educated about how to best control his diabetes, he was told he would need to follow the USDA-recommended Food Pyramid which he had tried and failed with a million times before. He commented to the group, “But I soon came to my senses that they were telling me to continue doing what I was doing before. So I started looking for alternatives.”

The alternative he found was the low-carb lifestyle and he explained to them how low-carbers eat a very healthy diet with lots of delicious and nutritious vegetables. As he was sharing the truth about low-carb to the Weight Watchers group, he could see they were being enlightened with information they had never heard before from the media and the so-called health “experts.” When he was summarizing his story, this reader started sounding a whole lot like your host of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore.” See if this quote from him is familiar: “There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Whatever you do, make it a lifestyle. Sugar and refined carbohydrates are bad for weight loss. Eat nutrient-dense foods. And finally, low carb is a viable option and the best approach for some people.” He also mentioned that there are many stories of low-carb weight loss success on the Internet in blogs and forums and he even showed them the front cover of my book as an example of someone who has overcome his lifelong battle with morbid obesity thanks to the low-carb lifestyle. Whoa, cool!

My reader was so excited when he was finished speaking because that group of Weight Watchers devotees gave him a thunderous round of applause in gratitude for sharing his success with them. I am confident their eyes were opened that day with the honest truth presented in a non-threatening manner that was shared with them. My reader concluded that “it turned out well and will help everyone understand where I am coming from. I think I gave them a different perspective on low carb.” Indeed you did, my friend, indeed you did! Stories like these are so exciting to hear and I invite you to share any similar experiences you may have had talking about livin’ la vida low-carb with a friend, family member or in front of a group. Share that in the show notes section at TheLivinLowCarbShow.com or by e-mailing me at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. If we are going to change our culture and convince them of the truths we already know about livin’ la vida low-carb, then it will take each and every one of us sharing the knowledge and hope that we have found with those who need to hear it.

That’s it for Episode 46 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore.” Now more than ever we need to be vigilant about sharing boldly the concepts and principles of low-carb living that are quite literally improving the weight and health of people who have struggled with those their entire life. We have the right message. Now it’s time for us to let everyone know the good news. So let’s get out there and share it! So, until next time, keep on livin’ la vida low-carb!

I have also tried weight watchers-the point system. It just didn’t do it for me. Now low carb on the other hand , it is my lifestyle now and forever. Losing weight really is a matter of finding what works for the individual.

Hi Jimmy! Great show! Kelley and I originally joined Weight Watchers for 3 months. She didn’t lose a pound! It just didn’t work for her because she used all her points for carbs and was constantly hungry! That is when I suggested Low Carb and now she’s 83 pounds thinner. It was a fit for her and still is.

And she looks FABULOUS, too! Momma doesn’t look bad either after her weight loss. HA!

WAY TO GO, Kay!

Hi, Jimmy, just got around to listening. Thanks for featuring my story. Weight Watchers has worked well for some people I know, but just left me with insatiable cravings. I stubbornly thought that if I could just stick to the point count, I would succeed. Little did I realize it was really it was impossible for me and that I was just following the wrong approach for me until I wrecked my health. I’m all for people doing Weight Watchers if it works for them, but they shouldn’t hesitate to try low carb if it doesn’t.
