Hi Jimmy! This is vadim, I dont know if you remember me but i did share my story a bit in the past. I am from Brooklyn, NY and work as a night manager of the student center at Suny Downstate. I do work with Dr Feinman, unfortunately havent seen him since he went part time. I do hold a degree in nutrition, as well as a degree in DMI which stands for diagnostical medical imaging. But I am at least a Phd in diet journeys. I did try every single diet out there until i suffered form paralysis by analysis. To make a short story long, lol, I had finally decided to change my lifestyle and found low carb living both acceptable, satisfying and convenient for me. I would love to put my two cents if I can toward your ordeal on hypoglycemia. I am suffering with same. Number one, would you consider giving up weighting every day? weight does fluctuate, you know that, every glycogen molecule binds 4 molecules of water with it, so what I am basically saying weight might not be accurate measurement of your success on daily basis. But...... when you do see the number go up or not down enouph it creates subconscious stress and produces cortisol in your body which in turn produces extra glycogen storage which in turn produces water retention. its my theory, but it worked in practice. One time I decided not to weight myself daily and kept the same caloric intake and same exercise regimen. At the end of the week the weight did go down, 4 pounds loss. Can you try it, if anything it wont do any harm! I do walk after every meal keeping intensity at low 65 % of max heart rate. Its all about insulin production, so by walking after every meal you kill two birds. I also try to drink lots of soup, for example spinach soup in a blender is my favorite and it takes 5 min. Bunch of spinach along with a glass of chicken or beef stock goes throgh the blender as weel as garlic, half avocado, 1 0z of gargonzola cheese and half a spoon of flax oil or fish oil. then I garnish it with a bit of kefir on top and boom , healthy soup and I swaer it keeps me full. Thats all for now. Good luck, you are a good man, Jimmy and I love you and your wife, Christine,. i wish you all the blessings and success!

I agree I feel this would not be good for "normal" lowcarbers.

Hi all, I appreciate the discussion. . .hmmm, the reload. . .all of my client are allowed to do this and I also promote the reload as I do know that it does promote weightloss.. .however, I am a "tricky" guy sometimes. I am sure he will not mind but I will use Irfan (a client) as an example. We met today for a session and when he walked in, I said, "wow! look at your face!"
It was all bloated and "fat" looking. . .he looked at me like I was a bit nuts and said "what do you mean?"
I said," Irfan, your face looks almost like when we started 2 weeks ago. . .full of water, puffy and you also look really tired."
He agreed that he was tired and felt lethargic, and also that he felt bloated and puffy.
I said, "well, now you have taught yourself a lesson." This is how you used to feel all the time, 24-7. . .but because it was "normal" for you, you did not know.

I "allow" all of my clients to eat what they wish on the "reload" day. .however, they generally all start to decrease what they are eating on that day in terms of carbs and it turns into a "moderate" carb day where they eat Low gi, Low gl foods. . . :)
North American Indian "elders" did not "tell" their young men to do anything. . .they listened and told stories . .sometimes over and over again. . .people must discover for themselves what is right for their bodies. The only problem is that they don't know what really is "the right feel" due to the fact that they have eaten wrong for their entire lives. . .

Just a note. . .for my competative bodybuilding clients. .reloads are structured and MANDATORY. . .it makes the body into a super furnace for burning fat when done properly. . . . .however, I don't do this on a regular basis with any of my "normal" clients after they have lost the weight they wish to lose. . .

I'm not totally dismissing it...just hard to wrap my head around it. Kelly Ripa does look amazing. Weight training is so worth it.

Hey Jimmy... I am definitely interested in some of what Eric was saying. I am going to look into weight lifting also.

I was watching FitTV's "Body Challenge: After Baby and something they said really clicked... (and it wasn't the awful diet they put them on!!) The men lose faster because they have more muscle.... Now HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I HEARD THIS... and yet, no connection! We've (women) been told and WARNED that lifting weights will bulk us up and make us look like Arnie. I'm wondering, along with all the other myths that I believed, if this is true.

BTW, have you seen the Kelly Ripa Tide commercial?? She has awesome arms!!

I think I'm going to 'bulk up' on my weight lifting!

This is an interesting guy. In general he knows what he is talking about. He did his studies. His one day of Paleo-cheating I find an interesting thought. Perhaps we low carbers should suppress our bias on this point. Eric says he has the observations that it works, so perhaps this should be investigated.

Thanks for sharing Kathy! That was the biggest thing I had an issue with about what Eric had to say. And you're right about eating a large meal--low-carb or otherwise.

This may be ok for "normal" people to try, but this is a disaster waiting to happen for diabetics. Also, when Eric talks about stumbling upon some wild rice, or whatever happened to be scarce, and consuming it on the spot, I found myself wondering if this sort of happening occured on a weekly basis for our ancient predecessors. And still, nothing they would have consumed, even wild rice, would have had any where near the impact that our modern, high glycemic foods of today have had on us. And those folks didn't have damaged metabolisms from years of abuse of sugars and carbarge to begin with. I can agree with his perspective that we have a pancreas and insulin that should be used, but those systems would come into play even in the event of eating any large amount of food, protein included. So the insulin would certainly have to be released in the case of hunters killing a large animal and have a big feast of meat. Dr. Bernstein talks about this in warning diabetics to be on the lookout for large insulin releases even when consuming large amounts of foods that don't especially have a lot of carbs. It seems that when the small intestine receives a big load of food, even if it's low carb Chinese food, the body prepares for it by sending out a large quantity of insulin.

I don't buy it yet either, JayCee, but Eric is convinced this "refeed" day is essential to weight loss and fitness success.

Nice podcast. I dont know if I agree with the one day "cheat" thing as yet and would like to know if it really works that way biochemically. Playing devils advocate, I wonder if gluconeogenis cannot be speed up in some way to compensate for this?
