Although overeating bothers people on an emotional level, I believe that treating an eating disorder on a biochemical level is the best long term way. Yes you can learn to overcome your eating disorder by willpower alone. But!! Why do things the hard way! By greatly reducing carbs and increasing the right fats you all but eliminate the problem of "OUT OF CONTROL CRAVINGS".

I used to be starving every waking moment. But since Atkins showed me how to totally eliminate my hunger for the rest of my life.

I have tried fighting my body on an emotional level and lost miserably! Now I do things the easy/smart way!

So why fight your body when Atkins showed us how to do it the easy way! Comparatively speaking!

I think obesity is a disease in the same way that alcoholism is a disease. It comes down to a food addiction .To me , the addiction is sugar. Lose the sugar by going low carb, and your cravings /addiction will get under control. Mind set is also a factor; you need to find out whyyou overeat and turn to food for comfort. Once again Jimmy you have presented a thought provoking interview!

Absolutely, Kathy! I've blogged about this idea that <a href=http://livinlavidalocarb.blogspot.com/2005/12/british-nutritionist-declares-weight.html rel="nofollow">weight loss begins in the mind</a> and it is so very true.

I'm glad you confirm what Dr. Kennedy was stating in my interview. THANKS for commenting and for listening to the show!

I agree, Kathy! To me, mindset is the single most important factor to success on a diet. Or anything, really.

As a kid, being forced onto a diet never helped one teeny bit. Choosing to skip lunch and getting permission instead to walk laps on my high-school's track was something I was invested in and worked really well.

Having the right frame of mind can make hard things fun, the wrong mindset can make simple things impossible.

I do believe that you have to change your behavior and thoughts before you can be successful on a diet. No diet works for me unless I'm ready for it to work. (Although I do better on a low carb plan once I'm in the mindset to diet.)
