Jimmy and Christine,

I can't tell you how helpful your podcasts and youtube videos have been to me. Too many people still see this way of eating as simply a fad diet that will eventually end in failure. You are the perfect inspiration to those of us who want to break old unhealthy habits, and eat low carb for life. Your experiences are so beneficial for helping the rest of us stay motivated, and I absolutely love your sense of humor. Thanks so much, to both of you, for your dedication! I can't wait to try the new chocolate bars and the True lemon, lime, and orange products!

Amy, you are so right! People get all hysterical at the fat content of a food, but when you ask them about the sugar in it, they shrug their shoulders. That's why I wrote this blog post about how carbohydrates deserve the "fat" treatment so that people will understand how unhealthy many of these really are. People don't have a clue!

You got it, Dan! We all go through it, but it's those of us who get back on it when we recognize the "creep" has happened that determines who is ultimately successful.

Esther, I'm so happy to hear this podcast was helpful to you. DON'T GIVE UP, my friend, you are WELL on your way. :D

THANK YOU, Cathy, and I'm happy to just keep giving back a small portion of the blessing I have been given and continue to receive on a daily basis.

Wow, that is exactly what I need, right now! The email was so like me, only I totally lost my focus after my 50 lb loss and in 5 years gained it all back...5-10 lb at at time...plus another 10. I've been struggling the past 6 weeks to stay the course and lose that 60 lbs. and keep going to my goal of 100 lbs. I have that obsessive behavior of "can't stop eating" and just seem to "need" that comforting food. Thanks soooo much for all you do to help, your wonderful information, examples, etc, etc....and your truthfulness! God bless you (and Christine)!

Great message for the new year. I experienced a little creap over the holidays, eating too much (even if it was low carb) and slacking off on exercise. Now I'm back on track. Perserverence and permanent lifestyle change is the key.

Wow, I'm enjoying the comments to the podcast as much as the podcast. My goal is to eat low carb for health. My Mom is just not buying into it, however. She was a home economist for our county for decades, and she thinks Atkins and high fat is unhealthly. She made tons of Christmas cookies again this year, and truffles, and rye bread, and oatmeal raisin bread, yet she continually complains that she needs to lose weight. I try to gently tell people about how bad sugars and many carbs are for your health, but many still think fat is the enemy. I'm really hoping that the so-called authoritative sources will start seeing, supporting, and reporting the research. Oh well, even that won't stop me from the occassional (well, frequent) extra handful of nuts or the extra glass of wine!

Way to go Taiwan gal! You can do it!!! Enjoy your time in the states and ENJOY my chocolate bars. :D

You hit on an excellent point Scott! Just because low-carb dieting makes it easy to lose weight does not give us license to gain weight during the holidays and other times. There's worse things that can happen to your health than just gaining a few pounds. Health to me is the biggest reason for ALWAYS eating low-carb.

We love you too Tania! KEEP AT IT, too! :)

Thanks Jimmy for addressing that topic. I'm kind of an Atkins yo-yo dieter, so I know from much experience how easy it is for the pounds to creep back on. Even worse is the rationalization that losing weight while livin' la vida low carb is so easy, it won't matter if I gain a few pounds over the holidays! Unfortunately, it seems to come on about three times faster than it comes off. I'm back in weight loss mode, which for me is much easier than maintenance mode, but my goal this year is to change that. I appreciate your insight and encouragement!

Hi, Jimmy! It's your big fan in Taiwan. I listened to this podcast while riding on a bus with a ton of Taiwanese people who eat rice and noodles on a daily basis and are still quite thin. I don't have their genes, though...and even though I work out all the time, eating carbs just makes me gain weight. So I'm doing my best to live-la-vida-low-carb, and you are an incredible inspiration to me. I really enjoyed this podcast, and even if everyone around me is slurping noodles and eating rice, I'm going to pass on those starchy carbs and go for the spinach and protein! I am also making a trip to the U.S. in a couple of weeks and plan to get some of your Low-Carb bars while I'm there. I guess I'll need to order them online ASAP so I can pick them up before I head back to Asia. And, of course, if I happen to win 3 free bars, that will be an added bonus! :) Keep up the great work, Jimmy, and God bless you!

NewVision, you are VERY welcome and I think you'll change your tune about exercise the longer you do it. It's invigorating and you can feel the difference it makes. GO FOR IT!!!

I'm happy this helped you too Beth. A lot of people are getting over the holiday weight gain and want to get back where they were. Sloppiness has a way of happening the longer you go through life. It's funny how we always come back to what we should have never left in the first place--that's livin' la vida low-carb, baby! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Episode #102 ROCKED Jimmy ! It sure give me a lot to think about.
I hate to say this but, I've always been the kind to hate exercise. I've never really like to be hot and sweat. But I know its good for me and I just need to get up and start moving. Thanks for the boost I needed.

Carolyn, it's always good to take it easy when you're hurt or significantly tired, but skipping workouts for no reason other than you just don't wanna is not good enough. You and I will both get there if you just stick to it. :D

Keep at it TigerEyes! Restock on your coconut oil and add some heavy whipping cream to your diet. I guess I'm just so used to eating about 65-70% fat in my diet. My chocolate bars have a TON of fat in them, too. :D

Thanks for all the encouragement, Jimmy. It really needed to be said! I know that I was upset after I found out I gained a few pounds thanks to some of the not-so-great low-carb products, but I'm back to whole foods now and I love it! I'm a lot more active now that I'm back at school, so I guess now all I have to do is wait for my body to do its thing and get rid of this extra fat! I'm also trying to eat a lot more fat. It's hard though, since I don't like pasteurized dairy products (and I can't get any of the real stuff right now), plus I'm nearly out of coconut oil. Oh well, I'm doing all right for now. Thanks again! Take care!

Hi Jimmy!

Great job on your podcasts, blog, and your book!

I just want to back up what others here have said about logging your food. It's critical, because the carb creep can be insidious and we get surprised by it, even those of us who have been on this way of eating for a long time.

I can also relate to your admission about easing off your cardio or weight workout sometimes because I've been there, done and do that also myself. I think it's natural for us as humans to have cycles of sticking with something for a long time, then slacking for a little bit until something smacks us upside the head and we get real again. The important thing is to get back to the usual program again, or mix it up a little, just in case boredom has set in.

We can all do this!

Abner, you should be proud for the hard effort you have put forth in your weight loss. But remember you are doing this for your health, so worrying about your weight is really irrelevant. I know it's difficult to think about this, but weight loss is merely a SECONDARY side effect of livin' la vida low-carb. Stick with the most healthy way of eating you've ever tasted! You'll be so glad you did...for your health's sake!

Tara, you've inspired ME today and I appreciate that so much! :D

Wow. This was a touching story for me as it got down to the nitty gritty of what was going on with me before I started living la vida low carb in late December. I think we all experience self-destructive behavior and actions at some time or another.
I had struggled with sugar and carb addiction for most of my life, but had never been able to stop eating those things for any length of time.
My weight had been creeping up, but I had been trying to get it back down by eating mostly veggies and not much else. Of course that didn't work! I was back at the sugar and junk carbs in no time!
After searching the internet for help, finding some great low-carb websites, and watching ALL of the Livin la Vida Low Carb YouTube videos, I read Dr. Atkins' books and started induction about 2 weeks ago.
The thing I did not really expect was that after I lost the part of my belly that was sticking out over my pants, I realized how out of touch with my self I had gotten. It has been very emotional for me because I feel like doing low carb has started to give myself back to me. Now I have SO much more control over my food, eating, health, choices, body, and life!
I also wanted to mention that including plenty of fats has been a lifesaver to me in getting rid of the cravings. I have never been able to eat a whole lot of protein, so my strategy has been the high-fat, adequate-protein one. The fiber in veggies like lettuce, cucumbers, and zuccini has really helped as well.
Another wonderful side effect has been helping my family members. They have all been struggling with blood sugar roblems, and low carb combined with higher fat and healthy fiber has so far been doing the trick for them.
Thank you SO MUCH to all of you who are supporting the low-carb lifestyle and sharing your successes and struggles! You all have helped change many lives (including mine) for the better.
Just don't give up! Negative feeling sometimes happen, but there is always a way to feel better.
Try adjusting your fat/fiber/protein ratios, examining your lifestyle and keep reaching out and researching to find what works for you.
We can all do it!

Jimmy,
I have been mentally struggling so much much lately. I almost cried listening to this podcast.
I have not gone "off plan," but I must admit that I think our dreaded enemy...........the Carb Creep...has taken hold lately.
Too many cashews here, an extra LC ice cream treat there....my total daily carbs have still been low compared to traditional low cal diets, but I think they have creeped up enough that my weight loss has stalled or gone up a few pounds....it comes back down, but its up and down....2-3 pounds.

And although I KNOW I have lost 73 pounds, and that people tell me I look amazing, and that the change is drastic enough that some people do not recognize me if they have not seen me in a while, When I look in the full length mirror at myself, all I see is a pathetic fat man. Intellectually I know that it is not true! It must be the illogical, emotional side of me seeing it.
I really don't know.
How can I have come so far physically, and yet....my body image is still stuck with the old larger self.
There is a commercial that I see lately about some weight loss thing....some overweight women look in a mirror and see themselves as thin and fit.
For me, it is the opposite.
I realize I am 37 pounds away from my ultimate goal weight of 180, but I can not seem to focus on the positive lately. 73 pounds lost is incredible....How do I get myself to remember that?!??!?
God has controlled my hunger, appetite and cravings for almost a year now.
It hurts to write this. Tears come up at odd moments.
But I think by writing this, it will help me overcome.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings.

P.S.

The bars are the best yet for our purposes if used sparingly.

Also, I think if we get back to WRITING IT DOWN as we consume every carb, it will put it all into perspective and get us back to factual reality immediately (which is what is needed). Gods speed to everyone who is struggling...

Thanks, Jimmy, for your constant encouragement! I put back 5 pounds since Thanksgiving and it upsets me! I weigh every day (sometimes 2x) but I know this is a constant battle for me and I can't eat those extra nuts. I feel great, though, and my doctor took me off cholesterol meds and is weaning me off BP meds, too. Yeah! I need to lose those last 10 pounds and be aware of what I'm doing! Hoping I win your free chocolate bars, though!

Hi Jimmy,
Thanks for giving me the encouragement to get back on track after going crazy with the dressing and cranberry sauce during the holidays. That "another handful of nuts" part says it all - even though the nuts may be raw almonds, healthy, etc., the carbs/calories are still adding up. I can vouch for every word as being the absolute truth in episode 102. The "creep" is real and it will be our downfall if we don't wake up and quit allowing it to go on right now!
Cheers,
Dennis

Thanks for the reminder and encouragement. I am still relatively new to LC (5mo) and figuring out when I am eating out of habit or hunger has been a challenge. Also figuring out that I have "trigger" foods even if they are allowable, and that these may be foods I need to stay away from has been enlightening.
