Great continuation. I purchased two copies of “My Big Fat Diet” and considering giving the second copy to my local library or the larger Seattle library system.

That was a great idea Danielle! I will see if I can do that as well. My children have watched it several times and it prompted some great conversations. Especially since my Daughters friends are at an age where they are starting to get weird about their food and bodies.

With regard to monitoring progress and getting blood tests, I have found online ordering from places like Life Extension, Direct Labs, and others to be invaluable. Sometimes the cost is less than the co-payments I would have to make to see a doctor and have him order the tests, even though that approach is supposedly covered by my insurance.

A wonderful, informative interview. Thank you so much Dr. Vernon and Jimmy. Most notable is the information given in part one regarding the first question about blood sugar stabilization as determined by the liver providing for the needs when a person has been low carbing for awhile. It makes a lot of sense as to why I almost always have a high/normal blood sugar reading. I’m so amazed to learn that the liver makes the type of cholesterol, big or small, as directed to do so by the prevailing hormones.

Since (according to William Davis) the best way to increase your small high density LDL is to eat wheat, and the best way to decrease it is to eat oats and oat bran. So maybe thinking of “whole grains” as good or bad isn’t very helpful since it seems like different whole grains affect your heart disease risk in opposite ways. I’d be interested in whether anybody knows if whole grain rice increases or decreases small density LDL.

Marie Doe (03:08:46) :

This was such a great podcast - I’ve already listened to it three times. I really liked what she had to say about switching from sugar-burning to fat burning and about portion control, particularly protein. I’d never thought before about the fat you burn when you’re ketogenic being a part of your daily fat intake, just as if you ate it. So educational - after listening to her, I went and bought Atkins Diabetes Revolution and am reading ir noq. While I’m not pre-diabetic that I’m aware of, I’m so interested in learning all about how the body processes protein, fats and carbs. Drastically reducing carbs for about 8 months has had incredible health benefits for me (and my weight is dropping, slowly but surely), particularly on my acid reflux, arthritis, and energy levels. Dr. Vernon is fabulous. Thank you sincerely Jimmy for bringing guests like Dr. Vernon and Jonny Bowdon and the Eades onto your poscast. I look forward to every episode.
