Dr. Ornish at the TED conference.
Hello and welcome to the world’s premier low-carb podcast, “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show With Jimmy Moore!”
This week and next we will be presenting Jimmy’s exclusive four-part interview with low-fat diet guru Dr. Dean Ornish. Jimmy previously interviewed Dr. Ornish in 2006 where they discussed some common ground between his diet plan and a low-carb nutritional approach. Since then, the good doctor has released a new book on the subject entitled The Spectrum: A Scientifically Proven Program to Feel Better, Live Longer, Lose Weight, and Gain Health.
This time around, Dr. Ornish asked Jimmy to be as confrontational and challenging as possible. Did our host Jimmy do a good job? Let us know in the comments section below!
LINKS MENTIONED IN EPISODE 115:

Interesting interview so far. It seemed like he rushed past a few points where you wanted to say something and I hope you pinned him down on fat and satiety.
Ok, first of all I’ll declare I’m one of “those” that has never heard of Dr Ornish before.
Thank you, Jimmy, for trying to interject where it needed to be done. I don’t care how much potassium bananas have or how much fibre is in fruit juice. What are spinach, broccoli, cabbage, celery and all sorts of other yum yum yum foods for, if it’s ‘just as good’ to have orange juice that’s had all the fibre replaced?
Looking forward to hearing the rest of this interview. Thanks for standing up
Erica.
Maya, don’t worry! Jimmy recorded over 100 minutes of interview with Dr. Ornish - enough for 4 episodes (and i should know… I’ve been editing them!!!) There are plenty of opportunities to cover all the bases!
Erica, we couldn’t agree more!
Thanks for tuning in, both of you!

(Jimmy’s on a well-deserved vacation)
Thanks for your comments Maya and Erica! You’re gonna love the entire interview when it’s all said and done. Or I hope you will.
Very very entertaining.
I do wish he had answered the specific questions asked though instead of wandering off on tangents. This wass exemplified when Jimmy asked him had he looked into pro low carb research and instead of answering that he just went off into a spiel about the studies done to promote the low fat WOL. That was not an answer to the question at all.
I am DYING to hear what he has to say regarding fruit and vegetables. After all a serving of potatoes is VERY different to a serving of bell peppers. Also a banana is vastly differnt from an apple. And I cannot believe he puts refined carbohydrates at level 3 on his list. Yes the GL of the meal may be lowered by the other foods in it but refined carbs still leech vitamin B from the body.
Finally has he not read any of the myriad of research on coconut?
I like his respectful attitude and demeanour though.
THANKS Lynn! That’s one thing I’ve always appreciated about Dr. Ornish although we agree MUCH more than he lets on is the fact that he and I can have a civil conversation without resorting to any namecalling or other childish antics. I respect him and he respects me for what I do. It’s a good step in the right direction even if we are miles apart philosophically on nutrition and health.
