In today’s episode, Jimmy speaks with retired UC-Irvine professor Arthur DeVany, blogger and creator of the Evolutionary Fitness approach to diet and health. They discuss what Evolutionary Fitness means and how Arthur was able to help his wife reverse her Type 2 diabetes through the use of a low-carbohydrate diet.
This interview was thanks in part to the special request that several listeners made to have Arthur DeVany on the show! If you have suggestions for future guests, e-mail them to Jimmy directly at livinlowcarbman@charter.net.

I could listen to you guys talk for hours. I hope that you consider a part 2.
He’ll probably come back again when his book is ready to be published late next year.
This was a really great interview! Thanks for getting Art on the show Jimmy!
All the Best

Hallelujah to that, Jimmy. You’ve been really pumping out the interviews lately. Keep up the good work! You are an inspiration to me.
I’m seriously thinking about buying his DVD. I saw an excerpt on his blog, and I find all the nerdy stuff so fascinating. He seems to really walk the walk.
Great to hear this interview!
One of the things that Art promotes is eating lots of vegetables. Has he caused you to think about reintroducing vegetables to your diet at all?
Did Art’s wife have Type 1 or Type 2?
GREAT interview Jimmy. Art rules and I was so excited to see that he was on your show. Take care.
Chris, I’m not opposed to veggies in my diet. I’m just a little skittish about them right now because my weight loss is going so well. While some spinach leaves will not make me fat, I’m just trying to sort through what is happening now that hasn’t worked for the past year.
Art’s wife has Type 1 diabetes. THANKS for the comments, everyone!
It was Art’s first wife that had diabetes. She sadly died sometime ago and he has since remarried. Reading his blog at the time of his wife’s illness and death was quite an emotional experience.
THANKS for the clarification, Chris.
Wow! What a stimulating podcast! Lots to think about, lots to re-motivate oneself.
I was a little surprised about the Richard Simmons comparison. ( I’ve actually seen Richard Simmons twice in person at mall performances.) I guess what AD relates to is that both you and RS have a gift for reaching people emotionally. But RS methodology is not in alignment with true science. (i.e. low fat)
I love AD’s take on research . That there’s a cultural process which takes time in order for the truth of research to become a reality in the minds of individuals. Richard Simmons is an entertainer. Jimmy Moore is a facilitator of cultural process regarding 50 years of nutritional bamboozlement of the society.
Art is the one who got me started. See the results for yourself:

I had the pleasure of meeting him last May for a conference in Las Vegas. The man wears a perpetual smile and has the best posture I have ever seen in a human being.
Jimmy, I must say that your podcasts are a tremendous value. Today, we drove from San Jose, CA down to Vista (near San Diego). About 8 hours in the car and at least six were spent listening to your podcasts, one after another, getting caught up.
Amazing work and dedication. As a blogger of over 2000 posts going back to 2003, I have some idea what kind of effort you put into this, because even all I have done pales in comparison.
Thanks Deora! The Richard Simmons comment was funny, but you’re right. RS is off the message that needs to be heard and we’ll do what we can to get the right one out there.
Richard, thanks for your comments. I love the work I’m doing and look forward to doing it for many years to come.
Thanks for this. Art’s stuff is good.
Too bad it’s not wider known.
We’re trying to get it out there, Yavor!
I love that he recommended exercise for gaining a sense of well being rather than as a way to lose weight. Exercise should never be used as a way to lose weight or thought of in that way. It’s really about a means to happiness and health. A well functioning person will desire to use his energy and will find the way to do this that best fits his personality and goals. Great!
Fasting is good too. But not intentionally. People should not think that they have to eat all the time. One of the worst ideas in the health and diet world is that you should eat every few hours. If you don’t feel like eating, don’t. And if you don’t feel like eating for long periods, that is a good indication that your body is working at it’s optimal level.
Excellent points, Marnee! I took a lot out of this interview with Art. He’s an amazing story indeed.
Excellent interview. I have known of Art DeVany for several years now, this was worth the time to sit and listen to him. Thank you.
