Hello and welcome back to “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore” for yet another in-depth and informative interview with one of the most outspoken and avid proponents of the healthy low-carb lifestyle you’ll ever meet, named Dr. James E. Carlson. Jimmy is super-excited to let you hear from Dr. Carlson in this special two-part interview this week on the podcast.
He is a modern day renaissance man with credentials above reproach–he’s a doctor, lawyer, economist, biochemist, and cellular physiologist–so he’s more than qualified to speak about health and nutrition from virtually every angle conceivable! And boy does he have some choice words to say about the current recommendations of a high-carb, low-fat diet for bringing about weight loss and supposed improvements in health.
Dr. Carlson describes what the medical profession is doing to patients as a “genocide” and he doesn’t use that term lightly. In fact, he is the author of an amazing new book which is the perfect companion piece to Gary Taubes’ Good Calories, Bad Calories called Genocide: How Your Doctor’s Dietary Ignorance Will Kill You!!!!. It’s an explosive, blow-the-lid-off the conventional paradigms look at why physicians buy into the whole low-fat diet hypothesis hook, line, and sinker and meticulously explains why the low-carb lifestyle is a much more effective nutritional approach for dealing with weight and health.
You’re gonna LOVE Dr. James E. Carlson and become captivated with what he has to say in Jimmy’s interview today. In fact, Dr. Carlson describes his book as being “So simple, even physicians can understand it!” Now that’s pretty funny! This is a “don’t-miss” two-part interview, so be sure to come back on Thursday for the conclusion of this amazing interview!

OH I have got to get this book! I really enjoyed this podcast Jimmy. Thanks for bringing us such great content!
THANKS Amy! He’s got 30 more minutes of GREAT STUFF on Thursday to share, too!
Great interview Jimmy!
I just ordered the book and am looking forward to reading it.
Self-interest plug here — my husband, Dr. Gil Wilshire, MD also is a physician, located in mid-Missouri, who routinely recommends carbohydrate restriction and supports patients following such a dietary approach (especially women with PCOS)
THANKS Regina! Dr. Carlson’s beliefs are right in line with what the Nutrition & Metabolism Society is doing, so I hope he will become an active member. And, yes, your husband Dr. Gil Wilshire is indeed an excellent doctor who is also using controlled carb approaches for helping patients. Here’s a link to my interview with him last year.
Oh yeah….and for pediatrics, don’t forget Dr. Jamie Bailes in West Virginia!
Joy Pape, RN, RD is in New York City.
Dr. Keith Berkowitz, MD in New York City - his wife Valerie is an RD too.
California (San Diego area) is Dr. Steve Brody (reproductive endocrinology like Gil)
As I think of others I’ll add to the comments….it’d be nice if we had a list of doc’s around the country, wouldn’t it?
In the UK….Dr. Katherine Morrison, Dr. John Briffa and Dr. Tahir Masood too!
I can’t wait to get this book!!! Great interview!! I posted a link to this in my myspace blog…
I’m curious why his book cover is missing the “Dr” in front of Dr James E. Carlson’s name.
Maybe this is asked in the interview… off to check it out now!
Interesting observation, Erica! It could be because he is more than just Dr.
Erica, in response as to why I did not place Dr. in front of my name–that’s easy–I am no different than anyone else. Placing Dr., I feel, drives an immediate wedge between me and the person I am caring for; commonly called a patient. I have no patients in my practice, only friends of mine I provide medical care to. Again, I am no different, just because I have the privilege of caring for people’s lives. I do not need the prefix. Feel free to visit my blog on amazon.com and respond to me directly after you’ve read my book.
Jimmy, thanks for the opportunity to be on your podcast, what you are doing is soooooo important. I was absolutely honored to be your guest!
Bye for now.
Fantastic job. Can’t say any more about James E Carlson. We need such experts to “spread the word”. Can hardly wait for the second half this Thursday!
Thanks Again
Mike Scott
I am an old fried from school where he got his undergraduate degree. He has been dedicated to the medial profession since the day one I got to know him. I wish I lived in his city so that he can by my physician. Those who are, you guys are lucky. –Jun Nakiri
THANK YOU for that explanation, Dr. Carlson…er, um, James.
Michael, you will really ENJOY Part 2 on Thursday. THANKS for listening!
I appreciate your kind words, Jun. He really is a genuinely great guy.
I had to take control of my own health. Unfortunately I was never able to find a doctor who wasn’t trying to kill me ( like the title of this book ) I cured my diabetes with the Atkins Diet and exercise.
These are still my fav. interviews of them all. I cannot stop raving about ‘em.
