Wacky Week: Konstantin Monastyrsky Is Fighting the Fiber Menace (Episode 199)

ep199 Wacky Week: Konstantin Monastyrsky Is Fighting the Fiber Menace (Episode 199)

Hello and welcome back to another installment of “Wacky Week” here at The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

In Episode 199, Jimmy shares his conversation with Konstantin Monastyrsky, a trained pharmacist, burglar alarm installer, computer programmer and the self-proclaimed “Russian Atkins.” Ostensibly, Mr. Monastyrsky was asked on the show to discuss his fabulously researched book Fiber Menace. But as you’ll see, that didn’t really happen at all.

Monastyrsky instead chose to spend half the interview giving a tireless account of his personal life and curriculum vitae since the 1970’s. When Jimmy was able to steer the conversation to Fiber Menace, rather than answer the simple questions Jimmy asked about the book, this guy launched into yet another breathless tirade in which he managed to imply that Veronica Atkins is a liar, and part of a conspiracy to cover-up the REAL reason how Dr. Atkins died. Furthermore, he goes after Dr. Mike Eades and other authors as well for failing to live up to his lofty expectations.

The essential gist seems to be that while Konstantin Monastyrsky does endorse a low (actually a zero) carbohydrate diet, he feels that every major book written on the subject by actual doctors has very basic errors that only HE has been able to discern. The source of this wisdom seems to be the 30+ year old Soviet anatomy textbooks which he held onto since studying pharmacology in the 1970’s.

Add to that the notion that he apparently doesn’t think dietary fiber is very good for you either. He felt strongly enough to write an entire book about it but didn’t offer much in the way of support for his theory beyond saying “… I realized…” We are actually inclined to agree that fiber is not a “cure-all” for weight and health and may even be harmful in certain circumstances. But it seems odd to assert that one Indian dinner has enough fiber to cause a man to be hospitalized for bowel obstruction or to take the bombastic attitude to assert, “Give me the name of a disease and I say, well, carbs are somehow implicated.”

Of course you are invited to draw your own conclusions, but this is certainly, undeniably, a memorable (dare we say Wacky) interview we’ll not soon forget!

Wacky Week: Betty Martini On The Evils Of Aspartame (Episode 198)

betty-martini-photo Wacky Week: Betty Martini On The Evils Of Aspartame (Episode 198)

Welcome back for another fantastic…

Well, wait. Not every interview Jimmy does is fantastic. Sometimes Jimmy finds himself talking to people who are perhaps a teeny bit…what’s the word…unhinged?

Well, this is Wacky Week and we’re going to share some of the unusual conversations you’ve so far been sheltered from, right here on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

Wake up sheeples! It’s time to go down the rabbit hole with Dr. Betty Martini! Today, Jimmy shares an “unusual” interview with Betty Martini, a woman with an honorary doctorate in humanities who believes that food manufacturers, the FDA and, presumably the major advocacy groups for Parkinson’s disease, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, the Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie-Woogie Flu are all in collusion to hide the horrors of not just the artificial sweetener aspartame, but many other low-carb/sugar-free sweeteners.

After conducting this interview, Jimmy was left scratching his head, but a little quick research turned up some idiosyncrasies in her belief system. Apparently the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada consider her (and her probable pseudonym “Nancy Markle”) to be a member of the “tin-foil hat brigade.”

Sound odd yet? Dig a bit deeper. There is a “Nancy Markle” web site that claims to agree with the findings of Betty Martini, yet goes to lengths to smear her and insinuate that Dr. Martini is, in fact, Nancy Markle! Who is Nancy Markle? If you figure it out, let us know!

Come back on Thursday for Part 2 of Wacky Week as Jimmy talks with KONSTANTIN MONASTERSKY, who will explain why fiber is the root of all evil.

That is all. You can come out of your hole now.

romo NFL Football Legend And Nutritional Entrepreneur Bill Romanowski (Episode 195)

Hello and welcome back for another in-depth look at the movers and shakers in the field of health and nutrition brought to you in our own inimitable style here at The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

In Episode 195 (one of THREE big shows during this super special week), Jimmy interviews Bill Romanowski, legendary NFL football player with the 49ers, Eagles, Raiders, and Broncos where he went on to become a four-time Superbowl champion. Bill learned a lot about his body during his playing days and knew that his love for nutrition would lead him down a self-made path in that direction once football was over. And that’s exactly what happened.

These days, Bill is the Founder/CEO/creator of a line of superb nutritional supplements and meal replacements called Nutrition53. In their interview, Jimmy and Bill discuss his stellar NFL football career, of course (Jimmy couldn’t help but be a fanboy!), but also Nutrition53: the products, the philosophy and the history. Bill reveals which natural herbs will help fend off those “next day pains” from your workout and also gets grilled about why he uses certain controversial ingredients such as Pure Cane Solids (SUGAR!) in his supplements.

As a side note, Jimmy makes reference to trying some of Nutrition53’s sweetened products such as a chocolate malt drink. This interview was actually conducted many weeks ago (we record up to a full season ahead!) before Jimmy embarked on his current “no sweet” regimen. You can track his daily meals at the “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Menus” blog.

Hello and welcome back for another look into the world of low-carb research and education here on The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

In today’s episode, Jimmy interviews Joan Ifland, a woman who went from being depressed as well as a self-confessed harridan and transformed into a well-adjusted contributing member of society through the simple expedience of cutting flour and sugar from her diet. Since making this huge change for the better, she has listened closely to the anecdotal evidence of other people’s mood-uplifting experiences through carbohydrate reduction and discovered something amazing.

Armed with a theory, she went to school to learn how to formally study the effect of diet on mood. Listen in for her story and how she’s formed a foundation and research organization to help create an army of dietary mentors to help combat food-based depression and irritability! It’s yet another in a long line of outstanding interviews here on “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore.” THANKS for listening!

bob_harper The Biggest Losers Bob Harper Asks Are You Ready? (Episode 193)

Welcome back once again for yet another insightful episode of the #1 low-carb podcast available at any price, yet amazingly free of charge (!)–it’s The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore!

For today’s show, we are very privileged to be able to bring you an interview with Bob Harper, one of two trainers from the popular NBC weight loss reality show, The Biggest Loser. Bob is well known as the trainer of the “Blue Team” and well-respected in the weight loss industry as a caring and compassionate trainer who gets results by helping people overcome their mental challenges to losing weight and learning to love themselves first. He discusses his fitness approach in this interview about his new book Are You Ready?

Right off the bat, though we need to apologize for audio quality issues with Jimmy’s voice during the interview segment. There may be a slight echo and that issue is on our end, not yours. Fortunately, the sound quality of Bob’s voice is excellent and he is such a talkaholic there’s not too much of Jimmy’s voice to worry about! :D

While Bob is not specifically a low-carb supporter, he understands the negative health impact of added sugars and that evil high fructose corn syrup. On the other hand he does say, “People are not getting fat from eating bananas, they’re getting fat from eating banana milk shakes!” Listen in for more of Bob’s great tips such as eating within 30 minutes of waking up, keeping a food journal, and getting a pedometer.

Jimmy and Bob crammed a ton of topics into this brief interview so don’t miss a single minute!
